Once again. Does anybody know if the Premium Hi-Fi $875 option have a 7 band EQ besides the 100hz bass adjustment and 8khz treble adjustment ???

i'm certain there's an equalizer but haven't found the band ranges yet in posts.

The only reason I want an EQ to adjust the muddy bass and lackluster sound inside a car. The DSP might help but I hate certain frequencies like 400hz that muddy-up the low clean bass, and midrange. When I play CLEAN music I always leave it flat and crank up the WATTS. I have been trying to make people understand true sound and recording at a flat responce. I'm just trying to help you make an educated decision and give some tips to others trying to decide between the two. If you think it helps by upping the treble +10, hey... it's your ears, but not something I would ever recommend to others. Perhaps 35 years of being blown away by "old BIG REAL speakers at LOTS-A-WATTS" may have something to do with this.

The "expert" with the obviously BS products layed a large area rug over his floor as people commonly do to treat a reflective surface such as hardwood. Who am I though, odds would say I'm in the 99.99% of the population who knows less than you.

Wow. I am sorry that you paid that much money and a 400 Hz signal would muddy up your system. I paid a lot less than that and my system plays 400 Hz as clean as can be. Of course my sub plays the 25 - 200 Hz range so the LFE's aren't affected and my fronts are capable of 65 - 22, 000 Hz so they handle the freq, but since my sub is powered they aren't muddied. But, you do supply "LOTS-A-WATTS" so I could be wrong.

OH NO here we go again. I believe in this post I was just telling somebody a Civic Si system isn't a piece of shit. I wasn't bragging about it. Go back and read please. I know all about car and home audio. I was installing car systems as far back as the early 80's. I had a 1977 custom 4 door Impala back in 1982 that had a custom system that would blow your pants off. All separate components, monster cable, separate leaf tweeters, poly woofers, etc. I know all about car systems. I have been to several sound-offs and know that 350 watts isn't squat nowadays.

And in that post I don't think I said 350RMS (root mean square) I believe I said 350 watts total, peak, max. The 4 main channels have about 30RMS continuous, 50 peak, and the 8" sub has about 100RMS, 150 peak. So the 350 watt max-peak system has about 220 watts RMS total in all 5 channels.

Here is the post I was commenting on^^^ Sure a regular Civic might have a standard crappy system, but the 06-08 Civic Si system sounds much better.

its funny, i was just tooling around BMWUSA.com, and you can really tell Bimmer is trying to get better audio equipment available to the customer. The X6 has a 600 watt system, the M3 875! These are both 2008 intros, like the 1...

according to the PDF floating around here and E90Post, the Top hi-fi in the 1 has 380 watts max. It sucks that BMWUSA gives us no info on the website. This means dick, as we don't know the RMS wattage, nor do we know the speakers build quality. Can anybody give us info on this?

BMW will install an after market head unit. This is why I opted not to get the sat-nav and premium hi-fi. Once they install the HU, I'm in like flynn.

The MUD at 400hz was in the car not in my home. I have 2 full surround systems with 5 subs total. No muddy bass @ home brah:wink:

With Infinity, Acura, Lexus etc all having very nice OEM systems BMW better improve. My Acura TL-S had one of the best 5.1 AC3 DVD-Audio, DTS-Audio systems I have ever heard. If it had 50% more power I would say it was the best I have ever heard in a car. But I also purchased some of the highest rated DVD, DTS Audio disc's.

it's weird though, BMW only lists 205 watts of power in their 1 interactive site... RMS maybe?

I agree that other than very recently, BMW has been lagging in terms of performance. I may just install an aftermarket sub to help out...

YAH, if you don't mind the added weight in the trunk. I mean so many people are bitching how HEAVY the 135i is, be careful adding subs if your in the TOO HEAVY crowd. You can easily add 100# with a good subwoofer, MDF box and amp.

You could buy a 10" Amplified Bazooka bass hose which is pretty light though.

Do the song titles and artist information from the iPod show on the display of the standard audio head unit?

FWIW, I ran an audio test on the premium stereo in the 135i last night. I use an organ recording (good recording - Delos CD 3047) which has about a 15 seconds C1 (32 Hz) pedal being played. It worked - OK reproduction with a bit of a POP at one point. Typical home systems strain to reproduce that (if they can at all) so it wasn't bad.

So far the premium audio has been pretty good. Is it worth the extra bucks? Meh . . . I think, if you can, spend some time listening to both, using recordings you are really familiar with, before ordering.

The option that I snuck in thinking it was a throw-away was HD radio. I'm really glad I got that now.

So you are glad you got the HD Radio option? How does it sound? Does it really make FM better? When I had XM in my Acura it sounded very flat compared to FM and CD's.

Sounds good. So I guess those shallow 8" subs do a decent job in a 1/4 cu.ft. enclosure. I am guessing the premium will be about 3dB louder than the standard. I am hard of hearing from many years of noisy work conditions. Thats 1 of the reasons I am highly considering the $875 option. Plus the 7 band eq and DSP.
