BMW 135i Snow Queen

I've been driving my 135i for a couple of months in this harsh Ottawa winter, it's not something I'm proud of as the plan was to store it for the winter months, but priorities changed and I wad forced to bring it out this winter. Hopefully, next year I can get a winter beater and leave this for nice weather days only. On the other hand, I've been definitely enjoying the ride on snow, it's doing better than I thought it would with Michelin X Ice tires on. I've only had this car since June and I'm looking forward to all the car meets to come!

I've been using my 1 as a daily for the last almost 7 years, on the same rims and snow tires as you. Michelin X-Ice are fantastic overall, and surprisingly good on dry roads. They also last a really long time (with regular rotation front to back).

I had an M-Factory helical LSD for about 3 years, and the car was really really good and controllable in the snow. Even with the factory open diff, it's surprisingly good.

I still carry a small folding shovel in the trunk, as ground clearance isn't the greatest so you never know..

Can you describe the difference in driving you experienced when going from the factory open diff to the LSD?

In low traction situations it was more willing to come around under power, but also much more controllable. Can't really say I felt anything in regular driving with "no slip".

In snow, rear end traction was increased as well - meaning both wheels would put power down quickly which means the rear might start rotating quickly. So it might surprise you but once you know to expect it, it's much easier to control the rear end with the throttle.

Made doing some lazy drifting in the snow super easy
