Leatherette replacement...

Hello,

So I have had a 1 for a while loved it so much got a much more basic version than my first... only thing that really bugs me about it is.... leatherette... business radio i love more, simplicity i love more, it has the m seats and goodies but its leatherette.... Anybody know a good place near philly that can do a quality seat recover in same boston leather as my other. Anyone have (Darker) leather sport seats for sale? and hopefully it wont break my wallet either i know custom interior is NOT cheap.... i just want seats recovered though...

I think I remember seeing a black leather interior w/ sport seats on Philly Craigs List a few weeks ago.

It's going to cost a lot either way. I had checked with an upholsterer to put in the novillo leather and it wasn't much more than their regular leather. The factory leather blows IMO. Or you could buy evbecks M3 seats in the for sale section.

My wife's 1 is leather. Mine is leatherette. Neither of us sees much difference. Seems like a waste. At least look at the leather used in a 1 series and be sure it is what you want.

Well the boston leather in my other 1 is much much better. Softer texture and more supple. Also its not sticky nearly as much as the leatherette in the heat.

Look into Rydon Auto Glass in Philly. They have the best prices on this kind of work..but it will still be expensive

The passenger seat in mine was like faded or something when I bought it. I just bought dye and redid them myself. Would you try that approach?

Had leatherette in my 2002 325Ci. Looked great and after about 3 years the drivers seat started to crack/peel.

My 135i has Boston leather sport seats. Leather is better no doubt. It must be cared for but that entails every six months cleaning and treating the leather. That seems like a long time between treating the leather but I have read in many places that cleaning leather too often is not a good thing. They recommended every six months and do it in warmer weather so the leather absorbs the product better.

My issue isnt that the leatherette is degrading of falling apart...its just not as nice.... however the real leather is much more pleasant to ride in. (which makes keeping that car low mile hard...) both are sport seats both are power heated seats... just the comfort of the leatherette is somehow annoying. i tend to stick to it and my back sweats..... not really an issue with the real leather.

edit: possibly the leather allows better ventilation?

Real leather will absorb moisture, plastic will not.
