Got pulled over for window tint!!!

I bought this car 6 months ago and the PO had 35% 3M window tint installed on the rear and side windows. I think the car looks great with the tint and I didn't think it was too dark. I was always under the impression that 35% was the legal limit in PA but its not (PA is 70%) the officer said 70% is the amount of tint on the front windshield. The legal limit is 35% in MD where I bought the car. ugh this really sucks, I have 15 days to get it removed and inspected by a police officer. The thing was I think the officer was just bored and gave me a stare at a stoplight and then ripped a U-turn in front of traffic to pull me over for the tint and only tint.
Here is a pic of the car for reference...

Its a Riss Racing exhaust with custom Titanium Tips. And yes it does suck I love the way it looks right now. I was in a part of town that the cops always look for that stupid stuff and will pull you over for anything. I'm thinking I'll just get it removed and go get it inspected by a police officer and then put the tint back on and hope I don't get pulled over again. I can't help but love the way black cars look with a nice tint on the windows...

Car looks good with tint, sucks that you were pulled over for it. Love the wheels, what brand and size are those?

Well, it does look nice, but watch out that between re-apply, and the possible ticket to come, you don't spend more than this is worth.

Dang I've rolled with 15% on every car I've owned for the past 15 or so years and never been pulled over for it. Sorry man! Gotta have tint!

The wheels are 19" Work VS-XX's. I'm not too sure of the offset because the PO had them installed when I bought it. Brahmzy you are lucky, I always seem to get the shaft on every little thing done to my cars that are against the code.

Garage List

I have the same % on mine (and my prev 2 cars) in PA, and never been pulled over, I always thought that was indeed the legal limit as my dealership won't install anything lower on the driver and passenger windows. Nice 1'er btw, I don't see too many in PA.

Hmmm, I'd check because clearly he has the numbers backwards.

If he says 70%, what it implies is 70% light must pass through...

Check it out, because you may have 30%, not 35%, and then you can show proof, and do nothing more!

-- Car looks nice BTW!

It is based on the amount of light, not a damn guess. Was your moon roof shade closed too? Because that makes it look darker, and you have a black interior, and sometimes it just appears darker too, depending on the amount of light in the area at the time. I bet it's legal and he was just wrong, and it is going to all work out. If it does, write the officer, and his Captain, informing them about the local laws they are getting mixed up!

Yea haha well first off it was dark out, the shade was closed and it was raining. I was also in a dark area with no street lights. Hopefully it all works out because I really do not want to have to get the tint removed. It's just a hassle that I don't feel like going through lol

Oh haha sorry I didn't mean that I have the front windshield tinted. He just told me for reference 70% is about as light as the front windshield.

how do you like the night visibility with 15% tint on your 135?
a few days ago i got 3M 20% all around and find them a little too light with no problems seeing at night.

Love 15% - perfect. Not too dark, not too light. 20% would be a bit too light for me. I always do a 5% eyebrow stripe on top of the windshield. Some folks think it's ghetto or gangster, I do it for safety purposes.

I was pulled over for tint also. I had 15% in the rear and 35% in the front. The cop who pulled me over at 7 am in the morning obviously had nothing better to do. He proceded to make small talk, asking me how I liked the 135 as he gave me a fix-it ticket. UGGH...

Anyways, I got it signed off and left the tint on. I just drive another route to work and am very conscious of cops around town. Now, I usually drive with my windows down

This happened to me last year in my 2006 Audi A4. I'm not sure on the percentage but in California I don't think there is any tint allowed on the front windows.

I called my local tiny shop and for $140 they removed it, then reapplied it after I got the ticket signed off.
