That could look VERY nice on the 1er...
I long for Space Gray Metallic - looks great on the 335i Coupe, but it might not have the depth and character of Sepang Bronze. Funky name by the way - any idea of the origin? |

FWIW, all of the exclusive M colors are named after F1 circuits.

Probably... people who debadge will have 'em up for sale (ebay, etc), and people with 2nd year models will want to buy them
I wonder if these are going to be just for the "early" 2009 models, or if the 2009 models that come out in september will also have 'em... I don't plan on buying till september 08 at the earliest. |

If the 135i's delivered in March and April are 2008 models, then that commemorative badge is worth thousands of dollars in depreciation.

Forget about the badging. How about standard LSD for 1st year 135i.

BMW is still having some issues with the N54. There are still quite a few buy backs taking place. The '08 MY will be the second year of production for the N54. Hopefully 2008 will be a better year for the N54. |

I'm not challenging your sources, but I would be interested in seeing links for the buy-back comment. I just want to investigate the reasons.

FWIW, I had an engine replaced in my Miata due to improper valve lash setting from the factory. But not everyone with the same issue noticed it. Seems you had to run the engine close to redline frequently to discover the harmful effects of improperly adjusted mechanical valve lash. ; -) Suspect there is some 'edge-of-envelope' issues at play with the N54 as well. Another thing to keep in mind - even though European manufacturers test in extreme temperature conditions - they still have a relatively European outlook towards climate. They just don't think in terms of the car stuck in traffic on a 105 degree afternoon in Phoenix w/ the AC running full blast. |

Surf around @ E90Post and see what you come up with. Use, Lemon, Lemon Law, Buy Back. You will discover plenty of N54s that have been in the shop for 30-45 + days. BTW, this would not be the first time BMW has had engine issues. Remember the M60s (Nikasil) in the E34 530i, 540i, E38 740i and 740iL? Then there was also the 2001- 2003 S54 in the E46 M3 Coupe, Convertible, M Roadster, and M Coupe that was later given a 6yr./100,000 mile warranty. BMW has been investigating cases of damage to the connecting rod bearings resulting in engine failure. After intensive analysis, we can inform you that we found the root cause and have also tested and confirmed our countermeasures. The problem has been identified as contamination of the engine lubricating system during assembly in combination with unfavorable tolerances in the engine oil pump for the M3 coupe/convertible produced from October 2001 through February 2002. These cars will require replacement of the engine oil pump and as a precautionary measure, replacement of the connecting rod bearings. To maintain customer confidence, the extended warranty on all internal mechanical engine components lubricated by engine oil to 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, will be valid for all model year 2001, 2002 and 2003 M3 coupe/convertible and M roadster/coupe cars equipped with S54 engines. * Edit: I should also mention that the N52 has had issues with excessive valve ticking that is related to faulty hydraulic valve lifters. |
