Berk Race Exhaust Questions
So, I want to get a Berk Race Exhaust on my car to drop weight, reduce back pressure and of course sound.
I've seen how people have modified the exhaust to make it fit on our by welding new flanges to the Berk and OE Mid-Pipe so it can bolt up. However, is there anyway you could do a cut and clamp? Is the Berk exhaust able to slid over the OE pipe if there is a difference in diameter? Trying to see if I can eliminate a muffler shop from doing this and if I can do it in my driveway. |

If it's the same diameter as stock 135i piping then yes you should be able to clamp it. I'm running a 135i muffler on my 128i, welded, but still. Worse case scenario just have it welded.

BMW also offers a special clamp to connect two exhaust pipes together, a little pricey but makes it more DIYable.

I can get the BMW Exhaust Clamp for like $20 on ebay. Isn't as terrible.
Just doing quick searches it appears that clamp would create the most seal between the two. Sinister, how much did the cut/weld job cost you? |

Or, don't take my word for it. Here's someone who went the cheap route: http://www.e46fanatics.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=855155 At least he had the grace to writeup his error.

It's a part of the larger mentality that lead to such engineering decisions as capping your caliper bolts so that they weren't exposed to the elements, or creating a license plate frame that held the metal plate off the paintwork. Long term build engineering.

I used a sawzall to cut mine. Followed that measure twice cut once blah blah blah. I also used a metal file to smooth the areas I cut for a better seal with the clamp. Are the 135i muffler hangers exactly the same as the 128i? You should throw up a sound clip after you finish.
