BMW price for an extra set of rear wheels?
I like the OE wheel design (the single-spoke...that's 264, right? I can't keep 'em straight, whatever), but those skinny fronts will never do.
So...slapping an extra set of rears on the front would add just under 1/2" on the outside (it won't look goofy) and just over 1/2" on the inside (it'll fit no problem). And of course this gets rid of the stagger and lets you rotate f/r. Ta-daaa! Of course BMW might want an arm and a leg to part with a couple wheels (I'd ditch the RFT's regardless). May end up being more cost-effective to just buy a set of cheap repro's....thoughts? |

BMW charges $465 each for my 18"x8.5 Style 162's on my e90, and they are 28.5lbs each. You may be better off going aftermarket for cheaper/lighter alternatives. Good idea getting rid of stagger though.

Yeeouch. Yeah at that price, the aftermarket is the clear winner.

Usually a stagger is used to keep an unruly tail in line, case in point Porsche 911. However in this case, it's naturally pretty well-balanced (50/50 weight distribution, etc.) and it seems they employ the stagger to tune in some understeer for safety and mass appeal (but kill the balance in the process )...that and a little stagger can be aesthetically pleasing. I wouldn't complain so much about the stagger if it was 245/275 or something along those lines; there are many ways to get rid of understeer. On a car of this weight, though, 215's are totally inadequate.
