Exclamation Do you know what these are for!!?

In the picture I have removed One of the 'nubs' on the performance brakes for my E82. Do they serve any purpose other than making the caliper look huge & being heavy. I'd like to remove all of them if they are unnecessary, maybe I should ask Brembo. *These calipers will be painted Sedona Red to match my car.

Vibration/squealing/noise. I removed mine with no ill effects. YMMV

Would they add any heat sink properties? Like adding mass to a rotor, and just help with overall heat management?

I've had mine off for 5-10k miles or so. No problems.

They're a vibration damper.

Given that they're steel I would imagine they would tend to retain heat more than the aluminum caliper bodies.

Update: Asked my local German mechanic, he also said vibration/noise. I'll leave em off though & find out myself, theyre easy to re-install.

I was wondering the same thing. I saw a picture of an E46 M3 with the M performance brakes, without this bracket. It looked so good! So I came to the 1-series forum to investigate, as they're standard on the 135i. I did not like the look of the performance brakes with this nub. Would be great to see more pictures of setups like this!

Here's an image of my Brembo install without the nubs. I have a few thousand miles on them now & I have not had any issues. My car is not a 135i so I can't use them to their full potential (weaker booster*). This is also why my brake pedal will always be softer too despite steel flex lines. Breaking from 200kph+ is however much more stable & shorter now on Autobahn.

Just to clarify - the nubs haven't made the car feel different? Have you experienced higher noise levels or vibrations coming from your front brakes?

I'm really tempted to take mine off. Come to think of it I haven't seen those nubs on other brembos used by other manufactures. Is there a reason why?

No problems but I'm also using different rotors and caliper brackets.

Update on nubby removal, still zero problems.
I did the same modification to my 135i's Brembos.
