Now It Begins - BMW E82 128i Build Thread

What's up yall. Been reading the forums for years now. Finally wanted to jump on here and make a thread so I can share my build journey with everyone. I've been a BMW fan since a kid growing up. Currently have an F82 M4 which I consider my "fun" or "weekend" car. Have an E36 M3 which was my project for the last 6-7 years. Honestly just nothing left to do on it. One of my favorite cars still to this day. Also, have a Dodge Ram which is my family mobile, and use to transport my bikes. Finally, bought this BMW E82 128i. Has the sports package, premium and tech package and the interior is perfect, exactly what I wanted. I had a 335i for a few years but had so many issues with the N54 that when I got to a point where I wanted to buy a 1 series as a project car, I decided to go 128i instead of the 135i. Personal preference. Now the fun begins. I will continue to post updates on all mods I do as well as pictures of the process. Love the community, and look forward with yall taking this ride with me.

First up, removing front license plate holder. Stupid screw holes are huge. Having them filled in and painted. Second, bought LUX H8 Angel Eyes from N54Tuning.com. Third, bought Matte Black kidney grilles from **********s.com.
Will post before and after pictures after install.

Can't tell you what's next... has to be a surprise.

Welcome! And jealous of that red interior on black exterior. One of my favorite combos.

Intriguing username considering the 128i over 135i choice!

Haha. My F82.... Picked the 128i over the 135i because I had a 335i for a few years and had nothing but problems with the N54. Plus, it's going to be way more fun and satisfying to finish this build.

Lux and Black Grilles are on. Left is Lux and Right is OEM. Sucks you have to remove the damn Intake to get to the drivers side light housing. Getting the car tinted, and then those Michelin Pilot SS tires need something to wrap around. Some Carbon Fiber items are in route as well . Wayyy more to come soon.

Nope. Have wheels ordered for my MPSS tires and am going to wrap my OEM wheels with Michelin X-Ice XI3. Usually just drive my truck around during the winter, but in the case I have to take the E82 out during the winter season, I want to be able to actually drive it.

Very nice work you are doing, and a member that is local to me. You have quite a collection! How/when do you use the M4?

Thanks man I appreciate it. Yeah so I had a 08' 335i for a few years. While I had that I bought the E36 M3 as a project/track car. Been working on that ever since, but finally got to a point where there is nothing left I want to do. I ended up picking up a Dodge Ram Rebel as a family car/winter car. Had a Wrangler and traded that in for the truck. Love the Ram Rebel, thing is a beast. It allows me to transport my bikes and such. So then I had so many issues with the N54 that I traded in the 335i and got myself an F82. I would call it my fun/weekend car. Just bought this E82 128i as my new project/track car. I will never get rid of the E36 but I wanted to get something new that I could build from the ground up.

So to simplify things...

E36 M3 = Track Car/1st Build
Dodge Ram Rebel = Family Mobile/Winter Mobile
F82 M4 = Weekend Car/Fun
E82 128i = Current Project Car

aFe POWER 52-81013-C Magnum FORCE Stage-2 Si Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake System Installed. I paid an extra $100 for the "carbon fiber" version and don't regret it. It still looks better than the regular version even if it isn't real carbon fiber. To start.. it's significantly better than previous AFE intakes I have had. Engine start up it instantly has a nice growl to it. After you get close to 3,000 RPM's and above, you get a really nice, deep growl and sound. Car feels like it has a little more pep in its step. Nothing crazy, but better. Install took about 30 minutes, I did do it in the dark and have experience. I would say any newbie and novice would be able to do this install if they follow directions and maybe watch a video. All and all, a good mod to check off the list. Waiting on wheels to get delivered and Exhaust System is up next. Keep y'all posted. Also have some big surprises coming up. Going to change the game I can tell you that.

That's not real CF??

Also you said this is for project/track use, can I ask why you decided on NA vs n54/n55 platforms? Is it due to your bad experience in the 335?

It may be CF but if it is, it is about as basic as i gets. Regardless it looks good, better than the plain black plastic.

Yup. Will still take the E36 to the track, but this is the new project/track car for me. I had a 335i for a few years, and had a million issues with the N54. HPFP, Turbos, Overheating etc.. List goes on and on. I probably drove a loaner car just as much as I drove the 335i. I know not every 335i would come with the issues I had, but the N54 just wasn't my cup of tea. I am going to get way more pleasure working with the 128i anyway. I feel the NA 128i is one of the last breeds of the old school BMW experience. It is going to be a busy next few months getting this thing up to snuff.

Eventually... and I mean in 12-18 months from now. I plan to do an S65 Swap and really going to town on this thing. Though I have a bout 6 months worth of mods lined up and am chipping away at it. Tires are in, waiting on wheels and exhaust system to get here. It is going to be fun, not only to do the build but to share it with yall.
