Am I crazy? 128i M Sport move to 17x7, 215/45/17?

As the title says, am I crazy for the following thought:

Moving from the stock M Sport 128i set up of 17x7 (205/50/17), 17x7.5 (225/45/17) to square 17x7 with 215/45/17 all around (Michelin Pilot Sport 4S most likely).

I've been wanting to go square on my 128i for awhile now. Original plan was to get another pair of 7.5" style 207 rears and add them on the front. I really want to keep the OEM look, but with my Performance Brakes I've gotten kind of tired of the effort involved in keeping the style 207s and the caliper behind them clean.

Enter the style 371s that came on convertibles in the US. They look good, would be easier to keep clean, are affordable, keep the OEM look, and even show the caliper a little more. It seems to me like it would be a pretty balanced set up with limited draw back. Am I off base here?

What tires are you running? It seems Michelin no longer lists 7” wheels as acceptable range for 225/45/17. Apparently 215/45/17 was optimized for a 17x7 wheel.

I tend to agree with you. 215s on 7" but 225s on 7½"

Yeah it should avoid any potential sidewall flex issues by not having rubber on there that is just a little bit too big for the rim.

I don't really see any issues downsizing the rears to 215s and 7" rims on the 128i, but that was what I wanted to see about, if anyone thought that would make a big difference in balance?
