Diagnostic tool

Just trying to change the battery in my 135. I learned that I need some type of "reset computer" tool so that the car knows there's a new battery (which makes sense). I've looked around to find something relatively inexpensive to purchase that will get the job done and perhaps provide some needed service down the road. I'm new at attempting to understand my car. I have a long road of some mechanical upgrades and I anticipate computer software upgrades as well, so I'd like to find something that will get my battery online as well as help with foreseeable issues. Any advice?
