if you already have the PE, than a res delete is a good option.

Cat delete is a bit weird on 128i mids, they are in the bend.

So removing the resonator will do what to the sound? make it more raspy?

I dont think it adds rasp. Just makes more of those burbly noises.

I would look into e9x vids with Perf exhaust to get idea. They dont have resonators. Furthermore, 135i perf exhaust has no resonator.

Something's going to change, I'm just not sure what.

Here's a good reference for a PE w/ secondary cat delete. Not that I'm doing it right now, just putting it on the table.

That e92 has no resonator too, e9x PE takes care of that too

Supersprint told me directly that it doesn't sound good unresonated.

I may end up getting their resonator and muffler both though. At the bare minimum I want their muffler to delete my golf tee rattle.

Stock?
With a PE?
With headers?

Or just 'N52' in general..

Trying to start a new project, just bouncing around ideas.

N52 in general with a resonator delete sounds bad according to Supersprint. Seeing that E90 video, I'm inclined to agree.

I have my resonator off with the 135 exhaust, in my opinion it sounds really nice. I'll try to get a soundclip tomorrow on the way to work or the way home. I have my gopro i just haven't had the time to do it.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!
Both sound nice, but I bet the 135i muffler is a lot easier to live with.

This section could really use an exhaust media thread..

That sounds much better than the E90 vid, though still too much for a DD for me I suspect.

I have zero drone and just enough exhaust volume to keep me happy without being an obnoxious dbag, which is important when working in the hamptons. I'm curious if the disa manifold and evolve tune will change the note at all, from what I remember stig and andrey mentioned that it deepened the tone.

To be honest I am not 100% sure the video has the 135i Performance muffler. He certainly has the Y-pipe from it which deletes the resonator. The n55 midpipe remove the secondary cat. For some, headers may not on their list, so this is prob the next best thing.

I posted the pictures to show how 135i spec mid pipe is modded to 128i, it appears he cut off the ends of his 125i/128i mid pipe and welded them on
Hey! (6yrs later) So I’m looking into this for my 128i. I guess it’s pretty much recommend to have the 135i mids unresonated (BMP Y Pipe) Does anyone run the resonated N55 stock mids with stock 135i axle back?

I am back to the stock 128i exhaust- as this custom one has rusted out and needs a rebuilt. I miss it. I will likely go for headers, and a magnaflow or the AA mufler delete pipe.

I heard there are a few in the GTA. Not sure how they fit mids to flange at header.

Sorry for revive this again. I got a 135i muffler on my 130i. I would like a bit more but not a res delete, thats too much. Has anyone installed only the resonator of a 135i? No pipes no nothing, only the resonator? Thanks!

I also have a 130i.
The current exhaust setting is catless headers, no resonator and Supersprint power Loop muffler. The sound is great. The slight resonance is 2500-3000rpm.

I am going to add a US model to the mid section where there are cats. I need this for the MOT test.

I'm making a new exhaust with no cats. I use a 135i muffler with an electric flap. I placed the flap farther than the stock place. With the flap closed the flow and sound is like a 135i stock muffler flap open.
When my setup the flap is open, the sound should be a little more...
I think I will also add some Aftermarket resonator. I don’t want too loud a sound when the flap is closed.
A small video showing what I meant. Also testing for flow. Apologies for welding, I'm not a welder.

https://youtu.be/d9ICj_MZYQ8

This video is the current setting. I’m sorry there’s no better video, it really sounds better than that video.
