Tow Hitch-1 BMW-0

My wife's cousin backed into the 128i last night. Won't be forgetting that sound. He feels really bad and will be taking care of it either through his pocket or his insurance.

I know the 1er is just a car and that it can be fixed, but it breaks my heart because I love this car so much that I didn't want anything to happen to it.

Going to be taking it to a couple places for estimates. Do you think the door has to be replaced or can it be buffed out?

That's a bummer & sorry that happened to your car. It's a little hard to tell from the photo how bad the damage is. You might be able to find a complete door in the right color.

Sucks. Looks like the damage is only cosmetic from what I see. New panel and it should be good! All part of living with a car you love! The ups and downs

Don't fix it, use it as justification to not worry about your car's appearance anymore. Very liberating believe me.

If there were no metal bits that could get into my wash mitt I would leave it as is. Since I won't be selling it for many many years I think it adds character.

I tried finding complete doors but no luck in the rare deep sea blue configuration so far. I will take it to body shops for some estimates. I wouldn't mind taking the door off and sending it to them along with the sideskirt to reduce the cost.

typically the shop will blend into adjacent panels so don't pill that door off just yet!

That's the downside of caring so much about these cars. You can't determine what happens outside of your control and damage is dealt.

You can try so hard to keep car maintained, paint as clean and protected as possible or parking as far away as possible, but in the end something can happen and usually always does!
