BMW Performance SSK

Is the BMW performance SSK the same as the stock M-sport shifter. I know the boot and the shifter is different but the linkages the same or no?

I can't say for sure, but I do not think so. I had the SSK in my 2009 135i and now have a 2012 135i M sport package. The 2012 is quite good, but in my opinion the SSK in the 2009 was better. From what I understand, the SSK is not an option for the 2012.

No, it is not the same!

shifter throws:

N54 = 80mm's
N55 = 70mm's (incl. 1M's)

N54 Perf SSK = 50mm's

I have the Perf SSK and it is very much worth the money. It really makes the shifter feel more sporty. Together with a "CDV delete", it has been my best mods.

PS: IF you do get the Perf SSK you can save a few bucks by order all the parts separately from BMW vs just ordering the entire kit. I decided to go that route bc I did not want the Perf shift knob nor the alcantera shifter bag. I kept my M-tech OE shift knob and bag.

Yeah, what Dackel said. I ordered just the internal parts separately because I wanted the stock look. But you should know that the SSK is notchier than stock, and that includes making the 1 to 2 shift worse. The short throws make it worth it though.

Do you know the part#s for the internal parts and how much did it cost? I don't care for the performance shift knob and boot either. I like the stock look. How much did they charge to install? From what I researched, it sounds like you have to removed the mid pipe and exhaust.

Contact Dan@UnitedBMW on here. I ordered from him.. he knows exactly what parts numbers to order. I don't remember the exact price, but it was around the $300 mark.

I had my local Bimmer shop install it for me (www.performancetechnic.com). I honestly don't remember the price, but I think it was like 1 hour of labor.

I have the SSK in my 09 128i and it is fantastic. I do have the knob and boot, but I think they add a bit to the rather plain interior (don't get me wrong, I like that it's plain). Well worth the price!

I think the 1st/2nd shift is about the same. I think it makes a big difference who does your install and how well they know BMW's. Some shifter adjusting might be necessary. I remember reading how a lot of guys had US dealers do the install... only to have the tech botch the job. They installed the shifter lever upside down which caused the entire shift gate to move up and to the right. They also had trouble with reverse.

When I had my shifter installed... the tech at my dealer had done many before and it was an quick and easy job. He did have to drop the front part of the mid pipes down to access one stubborn C-clip for the linkage.

And my shifter really does not seem that much more notchy than before. The throws are a lot shorter and your shift effort is higher bc you have less of a fulcrum point with the SSK shifter. That is to be expected. Have a look at my video...
