M1 vs. Tuned 135i
Now we know it is going to be an M1 (at least a 1 Series Coupé by M). I do not know if there are anyone now who thinks the M1 is going to be overpriced and not worth. They say they could make there 135i N54 better than an M1 S55 but for less, just because the M1 will not get more than 360 HP, and so only 30 HP increase, what is very little for an M car when compared to 335i (300 HP) and M3 (420 HP), 550i/650i (360 HP) and M5/M6 (500 HP) and X5/X6 xDrive50i (400 HP) and X5/X6M (550 HP), and they can easily get 400 HP, swap M3 drivetrain themselves and put LSD for very cheap, or get full Dinan package. Here a comparsion between M1, 135i and 135i Dörrmotosport.
All 6MT: 135i: 310 HP, 0-100 km/h in 5.3 sec, 250 km/h (limit), N-Ring: 8:39 min 40.100 € 135i Dörrmotorsport: 380 HP, 0-100 km/h in 4.5 sec, > 300 km/h, N-Ring: < 8.00 min 57.900 € M1 (speculation): 360 HP, 0-100 km/h in 4.6 sec, 280 km/h (limit), N-Ring: ~8:00 min ~50.900 € http://downloads.doerr-motorsport.de/cars_web.pdf 135i Dörrmotorsport EVO 1: 57.000 € -380 HP -Pole Position Recaro seats -Pirelli P ZERO 135i Dörrmotorsport EVO 3: 79.900 € -380 HP -Pole Position Recaro seats -Pirelli P ZERO -Intrax coilovers -GFK hood -GFK trunk -GFK doors -RS window -Body-Kit -LSD (45%) -Roll cage I think the M1 will not just be a slightly faster 135i with M badge, but a real sport car yet quite affordable, and you to make a 135i better than an M1 you will have to spend much more than 10.000 €, and it still might not be better, plus you lose your warranty. The difference between 135i and M1 will be much more than just some 30 HP, and an ad LSD to 135i will not change that much. Just look at the difference of body roll of the first M1 spotted on the Ring and the last one: the last looks to drive like a go-kart. |

Ther is still a difference. 335i vs. M3 is 3.0l I6 FI vs. 4.0l V8 NA. These are very different engines in all aspects. 135i vs. M1 will have, if just to look oat waht follows "the same" engines, 3.0l I6 FI for both cars. And some think with JB3 they can get an M1 engine for 1.000 € insted of 10.000 €.

It's not the horsepower that's going to make the difference on these cars. The 135, with any tune, will not match up as no tune out there will make up for the difference in weight/pwr ratio...being of course if the weight drops a few hundred pounds on the M1.

Guys, if the M1 ends up having lager turbos and an upgraded head, then it will be a better tuning platform anyway, and the N54/55 with stock turbos/head will not be able to keep up.

Scott says 3300 lbs which isnt even close to a few hundred. I vote it'll have weight reduction done to it but will also have some heavier bits.... beefier drivetrain... heavy LSD diff.... I still vote it'll weigh 3400.

Besides a different turbo configuration, I'm hoping the redline increases to 7500 rpm with out the power tapering off. That would be something you won't get in a tuned 135i

if they would lower the weight and make the 1 series look a lot better it would be worth it. theres also the suspension that most people wont be bothered replacing all the suspension components, bushings, lsd etc.
also if you dont have a 135 already its a no brainer |
