auto parts
Now that Bav Auto is out of business I've been looking for alternatives.
I've come across businesses like AM-Autoparts and 1AAuto and their prices seem to be a real bargain. For ex- Shocks, struts and springs for $180.00 complete. ?? Are these companies any good? |

Never heard of the companies you mentioned, but doesn't mean they aren't good.
The go-to's around here are usually ECS Tuning and FCPEuro (Lifetime Warranty!). Always worth it to check GetBMWparts.com, as well as just a general google search of the part number (Some places like GetBMWparts price match I believe). Turner Motorsports is also out there but tend to be a little more expensive for general items, but their performance parts are usually very good quality. |

People on this board will heavily encourage you to stick with name brand parts, so if you're looking for shocks - Bilstein, Sachs, etc.

I am in the process of cross shopping parts for a cooling system overhaul for my 08 128i manual.
Amazon for a broken box Behr Hella radiator $40 shipped from Amazon - was new, just a messed up box. Looks like someone bought a manual radiator for an automatic, installed it, didnt fill it, found out it wont work and sent it back. rmeuropean.com for the belt/tensioner/idler, Fuchs coolant, and expansion tank fcpeuro.com for the rest Total +-$600 for parts Pierburg made the water pump for BMW - The also made it for my Porsche Cayman S - Made in france Wahler - Borg Warner made the thermostat for BMW Made in Gemany Modine made the radiator for BMW Made in Germany I think The Fuchs expansion tank was made in china. Couldnt find who made it on the one I took out. Rein - Continental hoses were made in turkey. Didnt look for who made the ones I took out. Continental made the serpentine belt for BMW Pretty sure INA made the tensioner and idler. The INA i replaced it with was identical.

I buy some parts from Rock Auto. They are certainly not BMW specialists but I get things like bulbs and brake pads, filters, etc. from them. I can't ever remember being disappointed. They are very up front with who the manufacturer is. If you want to stay with Bosch parts, for instance, that is not hard. My brake pads are Brembo, purchased from Rock Auto. They are ceramic and dust noticably less. Somebody probably just bought the right to use the Brembo name but the pads are working fine.
