Transferring music from iphone

Has anybody managed to download their music from an Iphone to the cars hard drive?

I can download music from my Ipod to the car but cannot download from the Iphone?

(I have the cable from BMW that has the aux and USB for playing the Iphone via the USB in the centre armrest but assumed I would be able to use the same cable to plug into the USB port in the glovebox)

I don't think it can be done unless your iPhone has been jail-broken and has the app that turns it into a hard drive. The way I did it was to get a 64gb USB drive, load the music from my computer, and simply plug it into the USB port in the arm rest. The transfer was not very fast but my music is there.
