Latest CD's you've bought review thread...

I felt obligated to start such a thread after purchasing 'PLANS" by Death Cab for Cutie, slightly old news considering the CD came out around Sept/Oct. (I believe) of last year. When in Tower today I was debating between Death Cab and Gorillaz latest, "Demon Days"(my next CD purchase), and chose the former having only heard one song(CD buying is truly a risk these days, could end up a very angry person). Plans is a very laid back and thoughfully constructed alblum full of euphoric and innovative sounds that make for a very chilled out mood. I've listened to the CD four times in its entierty today, love it. Beyond that, my first wise, fixed investment of the year.

I picked up the Fort Minor cd from Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park) this is his first solo album and is mostly hip hop oriented rather than rock. IMO this is a great cd, if you like linkin park or not. It features songs with special guests John Legend, members of The Roots and Styles of Beyond. I think there are only about 2 tracks on the whole cd i don't care for and the rest is great.

the death cab cd is great. i have been a big fan for a while, and he definitly shines on that cd. Hopefully you are already into bright eyes and postal service. i happen to be listening to bright eyes right now, and its great. The gorrilaz cd is also good, i listen to it in my store alot cause its good store music, but i havent taken a copy home yet for the personal collection. Mf doom does a song on the new gorrilaz which is my favorite track and i LOVE mf doom.
The fort minor cd is alright, the more i listen to it, the less i like it. I definitely think if he wasnt famous from linkin park, he wouldnt be good enough to have a record deal. Alot of his lyrics are "hookey" for lack of a better term.
Im listening to a lot of underground rap recently, i got the newest Heiruspecs and its AMAZING. If anyone has ever heard of Atmosphere or Sage Francis, these guys usually play all the musical instruments for those dudes live, but this is their own cd.
Also my best friends cd just came out tuesday, its available in most best buys and stuff. Its called Bishop (like the tupac character, not the x-men guy) its straight edge hardcore. Its real good, unless you have no idea what straight edge hardcore means, then you probably wont like it.

I am surprised people still buy CDs. With music subscription services, you can have just about any track out there with out paying for the excess...go Yahoo! Music Engine.

The issue of stealing here is skewed by the fact that things are being copied, not stolen. The quantity of music is never jeopardized. But I won't get into that whole debate.

I download most of my music and will continue to do so unless I'm caught. Sometimes I feel stupid if I buy a CD knowing that it's easily obtainable over the internet, as being done by quite a large population of music listeners.

I don't necessarily feel bad in any way, however, because I usually buy the 12" record (for my DJ'ing purposes) if I really like the downloaded track(s). Hell, I should be feeling ripped off paying $13 for a single on wax.

EDIT: The last album was Demon Days and I enjoy much of the album.

I prefer Rhapsody, but I agree with your post. I never buy CDs anymore. I will occasionally purchase SACD, DVD-A/DualDiscs, and even vinyl, but never CDs. I have too many CDs as it is.

I used to be the same way until I discovered that I could listen to just about any album I could think of in seconds. With Rhapsody on the Go (and Yahoo), it makes more sense to live with a less hip player and have a million songs to choose from instead of the 20,000 I have in my own collection. I use my ipod in a semi-portable system (Sonic T-amp) and take the Creative Zen Micro with me when I hit the road. It helps that I already have most of my own music in my car when the mood hits.

I really like this album, too. They remind me of some of the better british new wave bands that were popular in the 80s.

limewire + Roxio 8 + CD-R discs + 48X burner still = sketchy bitrates, uneven volume levels, and questionable fidelity. bottom line is if i really like the artist I'll buy the CD, and most of the music i aquire now a days is through retail, but for those club mixes i'll download that shit and make a mix CD. word to your mama

BTW i'm an audiophile, so in that sense i'm always safe buying the album as opposed to downloading it.

Yea I like the old stuff better also.

Most of the music I have downloaded I bought and lost! Sometimes I borrow the lastest rap, since its only good for a week or so! I have all my old school cds.

Shity bands and crappy rappers have killed music, not people downloading.

Who wants to buy a CD for one good song? Not me!

If I like them I support them. Well really I support the lable I guess, since the artist only gets about $1.00 per cd.

CD's, you just can't trust um anymore.... instead buy MP3's online, the only songs you want you buy.

I guess the artists gets something from the Rhapsody service. I am not real sure how that works, though.

I do consider sound quality important on some titles. That is why I buy other formats (SACD & DVDA) instead of CDs most of the time. For me, I can live with Rhapsody's 160 Kbps or Yahoos 192 Kbps on most titles. I prefer to pay for the service and know the quality I am getting.

Buying CD's is overrated. The argument that you steal from the artist doesnt hold since they get pennies for every 18 dollar CD sold. If you want to support your artist, buy a T shirt from their website. They get upwards of 50% of what you pay, so its a much better way of supporting them, and you get something useful out of it and free advertising for them.

Can you rip and share it? Ultra CD's are hard to find online, very narrow audience. I'll trade, I have 6 or 7 other Ultra Records albums.
