Passenger Restraint System Warning Light

WTF!!! The light just came on and I'm only at 800 miles on the odo. Has anyone else encountered this same issue. I'll probably just wait until my 1200 mile service together it checked out.

Does anyone know how/if I can reset this warning light to see if it'll clear?

At the time this happened, I was only pulling the vehicle in/out of the garage for cleaning. My wife sat in the seat several days prior to the light coming on. I did move the seat back and forth to lightly apply leather cond with a microfiber before this happened. Maybe I rubbed too hard and affected a seat sensor.

Did she sit in the car all of a sudden(like jump in with all her weight) or use her knee on the bottom seat cushion? When you put a knee into the lower seat cushion you can damage the airbag's sensor that calculates IF someone is sitting in the seat or not - and what their weight is for SRS deployment. It is a common problem with older BMWs. This is my best guess.

Only real way is to read the SRS codes and see what it is telling you.

Thanks Dack. I don't recall any of what you described, only because she's only been in the vehicle once. Hopefully, BMW can fix it on the first whack. Too bad I couldn't do my own code reading.

Probably just a sensor.... or it could be your cars way of getting you to get it out of the garage and drive it to the dealer...800 miles WTF??!! Go drive that car!

Had this same issue on my previously owned X5. Turned out a 10 amp fuse for the seat electronics blew due to an intermittent short. Even after the fuse was replaced the code had to be cleared only to show up again a few weeks later. Apples vs oranges? Perhaps. Hope its not an intermittent issue.

Please let us know what they find is the root cause.

Check the fuse box (especially fuses numbers 03, 10, 20, 45, 46, 68)
(nota bene: the fuse box diagram indicated below also features in the "BMW 1M Manual | Catalogue | Presskit | Pricelist" sticky: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...php?t=651059):
