Ordering Dunlop Direzza ZII's....will 265/35 and 235/40 fit?
I need to order new tires today for an upcoming auto-x.
I've got 255/35/18 and 225/40/18 Michellin Pilot Super Sports currently, but I want to switch to the Direzza's. From what I hear they have much much better grip (according to the Grassroots Motorsports review - http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/top-tires/). Can anyone confirm 265/35/18 and 235/40/18 will fit? I've currently got 15mm spacers in the front, but I could pull those off. I've also got vorschlag camber plates in the front, but I don't want to run excessive camber and wear out the insides, and I won't roll any fenders. If no ones tried them in that size, I'll probably just stick with the stock size +1. |

I have those exact tires and sizes sitting in my garage waiting to get mounted up on my stock wheels. Now that the 265 is here in person, I'm worried it won't fit. Once the foot of snow melts up here in MN, I'll be getting them mounted up. I'll definitely provide my feedback on fitment. In the meantime, hopefully someone else will chime in.

I just installed the tires 235s all around. They ride smooth but a little louder than my run flats. They will be used on the track tomorrow so I can give better input.

BFG rivals, Hankook RS3s and Dunlop zIIs will run laps around the PSS. OP - I don't know about tire clearances but the ZII is an awesome tire, and it will be my next tire to buy. Don't be concerned with more camber. Run zero toe in the front and you won't see excessive inside wear. I run -2.3 at 0 toe on my z4, and still see more outside wear still on my shoulders. Heavy autoxer here as well |

The 265/35 ZII tire is just a hair under 11" wide at the widest part of the sidewall, unmounted. I measured it by laying the tire on its side and laying a board across the tire's diameter. Then I measured from the floor to the under side of the board. I figure this method is easy to repeat when trying to compare with other tires.

The Direzza ZII tread noise is very loud. Z1's I found got louder after every good track outing. I just installed ZII's and I am impressed by the grip. That said they were loud from the get go. While I have Ground Control street camber plates, which no doubt transmit a bit more noise into the car than the OE strut tops, I would suggest that unless you actually get to use that grip at a track or autocross you will regret choosing the ZII's because they are so noisy.
I am running a square 225 setup, so can't help you with your sizing question. |

I will agree on the road noise of the Z1's. I just recently started driving my 135 again after being in my nice and quiet 330xi all winter. And HOLY SHIT these things are loud. Amazing autox grip tho!

Well, I've managed to get some slight rubbing on the outer shoulder of both fronts. I never heard any noise, but there is about 1/8" wide rub mark on the tires. It's very minor and happened maybe once or twice. The rears don't show any signs of rubbing. I've only had myself and one passenger in the car so far. Maybe if I had four people in it, I'd see something. I'll add more info if I notice anything else worth adding.

Maybe I'll stick with 225/40 and 255/35 for the time being. |

Not much at all. I would guess between -.5 and -1 degree at most. All I did was drill out the alignment pins and slide the struts in as far as they would go.
