To frame or not to frame.....
I just got my license plate today.....do you guys frame your license plate......with the dealer's frame to help advertise for them....or aftermarket frame.....OR leave it plain and clean? What are your thoughts????

I know a lot of guys like a clean look but I feel a sense of responsibility to use the dealer frame for a while for advertising....and to thank them for not putting on a god awful dealer sticker!

Unless they give you a discount dont advertise the dealership. I told them specifically not to put any type of notation on the car. I'll advertise by telling others what a great deal and service I've gotten from them (Passport BMW) I'm going to have aftermarket frames from my University (Brown University) put on the car.

I vote for the frame. I always go for the plain chrome frame with nothing on it. I'm a huge sports fan, but I never get the team plates, just plain chrome. I am looking for one now for my new car, I don't want a bmw one either.

I've got Aggie pride, so I put my UC Davis Alumnus license plate frame up --before I've even gotten my plates... hahaha... I refuse to be a rolling advertisement for my dealer.

I say less is more. I had a very thin chrome frame on my silver car and I plan to get the same frame in black for my new black car. It always kills me to see people using those big thick frames that say "BMW" on the bottom. I mean....talk about redundant.
Don't get me started on the frames that look like chains.

Anyone have pictures of chrome frames? I'm decided whether I want chrome or black.

I took off my dealer plate right when I got home from picking up the car. It was one of the ugliest frames I have ever seen. As for a new one, I can't decide to go with a thin black or chrome frame. We need some photos.

No frame yet. The first thing I did when I got home was remove the ad pages from the back of the car. I bought a carbon fiber one for my son to replace the "Happiness is being a grandpa" that was on his last car. Going to hold that up there and see what it looks like. Right now, with the plate only, there are the two bootom holes where a bolt COULD go, but it looks a little funky after debadging to have that incompleteness.

I saw a funny frame awhile back
"university of Texas former student" I guess the guy never graduated, I guess enough people don't graduate and are proud of that fact that they decided to make a custom frame for those people |

Framed. The raw edges of the plate look too nasty without a frame. I got the BMW stainless steel frame, which looks nice against the Alpine white and also goes well with the badging and chrome exhaust tips.

You could cut yourself pretty easily on the edge of the plate while washing the car if you don't put some type of frame on it. I put my UCSB Alumni frame on that was on my last car. It's chrome and looks pretty good on the SG car.
I took off the dealer frames and turned around the paper temporary plate with the dealer name on it so it is plain white. I felt kind of bad about it when I took it in for service but I paid for the car, so I am not going to advertise for the dealership unless they would have given me under invoice price. |
