Aussie Top Gear

Just finished watching the Aussie version of Top Gear. MMMM different. Needs its own personality and should try to be a bit different to the Pommy one. The shark thing was stupid.
Yep.

Didn't miss much, will give it one more week. The test track is ala shitsville gymkhana....... at least somebody could be using the creek! Even the Aussie mag is lacking, but still prob the best out there in terms of coverage. Long day..... still 7 weeks wait for 1er, more whining to come....

Yeah wasn't to impressed with the track. Looks like they set up some witches hats down at the local airport.

In the intro credits you can see a Sedona Red 135i briefly.

Wonder which episode it will make its debut?

They are trying too hard to be the same as the UK show. It appears the presenters are even copying the UK personalities. Its a mistake which American television does all the time trying to recreate successful English and Australian shows using US actors. SBS should try to create their own show.

Haha, it's about to start over here. Am recording it on the DVR, so I can skip the ads, which is why I no longer watch SBS live. I normally get TG via other means.

I think it will take a while for their personalities and interactions to develop... it's almost impossible to take a proven format and recreate in a local version.

Go back and watch Season 1 of Top Gear and it wasn't terribly good either!

Yeh not the best track. Goulbourn airport?? Could be the old Cooma one.
The Perky voices can be grating if going on for to long.
will give it another week though. (I will probably watch the whole season knowing me) I want to see what they think of the one'r and knowing my luck will be in the last show.

I just received my tickets for next weeks taping... seems they use Bankstown Airport for the track, and an old hangar as the studio.

Call time
Doors open at 4.15pm. Unfortunately, anyone who arrives after 4.45pm will be turned away as we have to stick to a tight schedule. Try not to arrive too early though as there is no shelter outside the studio.
In the Studio
Once inside the studio, the crew will direct you into position. To make their job easier and get things moving quickly, please follow their instructions. Front row positions will not necessarily be given to the first through the door, so don’t feel you need to rush to secure a position. There will be plenty of crew around to assist you and make sure you get a spot.
Duration
The recording will take approximately two and a half hours, although it may be longer than this. You will have a break during this time, when you can have water, tea and coffee, and time to answer the call of nature.
Studio Location
The Top Gear Australia studio is located in Hangar Building 581, on the Corner of Birch Street and Prentice Street at the Bankstown Aerodrome.

I liked it. Very relieved.

They were settling in, but the one trying the hardest/ most nervous was the Star In A Reasonably Priced Car. He is definitely better with a script.

The test track was definitely lacking though.

My partner managed to get me tickets to the taping of UK TopGear for my birthday. We are going 19 November! Can't wait.

I'm sure Aus TopGear will improve. Give them a few episodes to get in the swing of it.

It's great. I think it does surprise a few people. I didn't debadge it so that people would know they just got smoked by a diesel. Possibly handles better than the 135i as the engine weighs less. But of course it isn't quite as quick. But as I mentioned in another thread, I had it up to 250kph yesterday in Germany.

Well just finished here in Perth... Have to say ho-hum

They're just trying way to hard. And that underbelly chap looked and sounded like he'd sucked up 1/2 a kilo of coke before coming on.

All in all: C-

Go back and watch the first episode of the current top gear, or first series for that matter, it was pretty shit. There was that random fat dude in it and the black Stig with gardening gloves :iono: Given that, I didn't think the first Aussie version tonight was too bad.
