Can those with 1Ms compare to JB3?
Does anyone with a 1M have any experience with a 135 with a JB3?
How does it compare? Especially on map 5? |

Great question. Although the HP falls short on the 1M, it would be interesting to here from those who have owned both. Sounds like there's a good possibility the JB4 will work on the 1M so that's an easy 400hp M.

Are we talking straight line or in corners?
1M will outhandle the 135i by far.

Take the handling out of the equation. The JB doesnt do anything to improve that.
Im talking power delivery, thrust, seat of your pants dyno, etc The reviews I am reading on the 1M make it sound amazing in those categories, but they are very subjective and in my mind those reviews are giving me impressions that the car can "pull" harder/better than a JB 135. Im curious if anyone going from map 3 or 5 on their 135 would be "disappointed/let down" by the 1M in that respect. I realize its not apples to apples, I just want a perspective. |

Straight line performance
Engine output will be the same once it is tuned with a JB. The difference would come from traction off the line due to the LSD, as well as better gearing. Other than that there should be no difference. I would like to line up with one. I doubt that it could keep up in stock form in an acceleration test.

I could only run the 91 oct maps on the JB3, but from my perspective the 1M feels at least as fast as my 135 did with the JB3 (DCI's and FMIC). And that is only up to 4000 rpms.

I know we're talking JB3 here but without deviating too much, I highly doubt that a stock 1M would match the straight line speed of a Cobb AP tuned car.

As soon as most people come to the realization that the engine is the same... With OE DME tuning differences no.
Weight is negligible, though better balanced in the M... And if I hear one more time that the seats are nicer I might jump off of my house..

What about the intake and exhaust changes? The power gets to the ground better in the 1M as well.

What intake changes? Exhaust is also negligible. It might flow a little better, but even guys with full exhaust barely see any real world difference other than sound in the 135i's. Hell, even kityless DP's don't make a huge difference, what 10-15hp?

Not sure exactly what changes were made to the intake but they exist.

How do you know they exist if you don't even know what they are?

There are no changes. I don't mean to come off like an asshole. Sorry. I just have not seen one thing written with facts to back it up that states a difference in the intake.

Well lets use the most recent review of the 1M by Jolopnik. You may want to take the time to read some of the reviews. ....But what of the sound? BMW definitely gave the 1M its own aural signature, which is less wicked than other Ms, but is far deeper and angrier than the 135i by way of tweaks to the intake and exhaust. |
