Non-metallic paint?

Before I order my 128 vert, I wanted to know what people thought of the non metallic colors. I am willing to spend the $475 for the metallic colors, but non metallic seems like a nice place to cut cost.

If you get red you stand out a mile away when you speed in traffic.

Black, ditto.

White just isn't a color.

Go to the dealer and see the 3 series for a comparision. My SA showed me the mettalics next to the base and it is a good comparision. It is a personal opinion.

personally I like the AW and went with it... I think its far more personal preference to a color and whether or not its worth is dollar wise, its just too subjective.

You can definitely save $475 there. Although you should tack on a few hundred for a PC random-orbital polisher, some Griots' polish, polishing pads, and polish removal cloths. Don't forget the claybar. You'll need all that to remove the swirl-marks and spider-webbing that will show up *way* more on flat paint. I loved (loved) LOVED my Imola Red E46 M3. But.... sweet Jesus it was hard to keep the paint looking good.

Or....maybe you don't care about swirl-marks. Frankly, I think the 1 series in Crimson Red is about as stunning as you can get.

My first choice for non-metallic would be white. White on the 1 series is extremely sharp looking. Just look at some of the members' signatures on this forum.

Plus where I live, white and silver colors have a slightly higher resale value according to my dealer. I don't know about your area though. This should not be a consideration, however. Choose what pleases you the most.

Don't make it about money! $475 in the scheme of a $30K car is not going to make a big difference. Just pick the color you like best and go with it.

I chose Jet Black because I think it is simply the best looking color BMW makes. It is one of if not the deepest darkest blacks made. Pain in the ass to keep clean? Yup. Nothing looks better though

p.s. Buy a vert so you don't have to keep the roof clean, lol.

I do say you nailed it there Katera:thumbup: Jet Black all the way! I must say..the Crimson red and Alpine white both look very very good. I've never liked white on cars but I think the AW looks very good.

jet black is such a common person color.

how lame. how ordinary.

black sapphire is reserved for the rich. the elite.

haha.

i can't believe people even market the two colors against each other.

paint is paint. more times than not. good choices.

Actually from a detailers point of view, many have said that BMW's Jet Black paint was some of the worst paint they have ever worked with. The clear coat and jet black paint is extremely soft, prone to micro marring and spider webbing no matter how you wash the car. Many have suggested to no-touch wash, however that would decrease the durability on the wax/sealant significantly. Still, I have opted to get Jet Black.

If you want black, I personally prefer the Jet Black over the Black Sapphire. The Black Sapphire has purple and green flakes in it.

A clean Jet Black is gorgous.

Alpine White is my favorite though, BMW racecars are white.

Every car I have owned in the last 10 years has been white. Every one. Basically because they are low maintenance. I'm sick of white

I saw an AP 128i Vert sitting right next to a 128i Vert in JB. There was simply no comparison. While the AP looks good on the Coupe, it looks...umm kinda soft and girly on the Vert. The Jet Black Vert though looks extremely $$$.

Again Katera it justs boils down to personal taste..the old debate of which of the two blacks is blacker or more durable to day to day wear.. I myself have always had at least one black car in my garage and at 47yrs of age am still buying black.I just love the richness and fullness of black and how it really brings the car to life.

Me and my wife both like blue. Neither one of us has ever owned a car that was not blue. Although my first PT Cruiser was a grayish blue color called "Steel Blue" and she still insists that it was gray and not blue, in spite of the name.
