1ers over 1200miles - how have you been driving it?

so i came onto the freeway tonight (101 northbound, for whose on u in the bay area) and my passenger said, "let's see what this car can do" and i floored it.

man, this car is quick! i felt like the car can do a lot more tho. next time, i'll use the paddle shifter, which i m sure there's a difference. all i saw on the side were lights flashing by and it hit 90 in no time. Freakin AWESOME!!!

and i did my 1200 oil change today. couldn't find a dipstick, probably dont' have one so we had to put the car on the hoist to drain the oil out.

I have a friend that is a mechanic and he takes care of my cars.

anyone doing their own oil change. let your car cool down before draining the oil cuz it's HOT!

There is no dipstick! The cars with the nav system and iDrive have a "virtual" dipstick in the menus, but I'm not sure how cars without the nav systems can check the oil.

Correct me if i m wrong for non-iDrive owners.

On the left side of the steering wheel, the upper handle stick has a "scroll" button and you push it up or down, then push the button "in", you can check your oil that way also. it'll show the status on the dash board lcd.

No way would I let someone other than a BMW dealer change my oil, especially while under warranty. Putting too much in is very bad, and I can see that happening with those unqualified. And if someone other than BMW does it wrong, you're screwed.

i totally agree but he's a very close friend and he's been a mechanic for years. he does great work. i m not worried. on top of that, it's an oil change. what idiot can't do an oil change?!?

it's just that dealership won't do a 1200 mile oil change for free so i rather do the oil change else where.

You drain it out and put 6 quarts back in. Depose of used oil properly. Picking an oil is the hard part.

since its all covered for free anyway why not just take it in. isn't all your oil changes free for 4 years?

that said you have to be pretty cluless if changing oil on a car is scary to you.

pull plug, drain, install plug ( and torque ), add oil, run car, cheak oil, add as needed to full line.

NO.....Only the "scheduled" service is covered. An oil change at 1200 miles is not scheduled and is therefore not covered.

then just save the recipts oof the oil so that you have some proof of when the oil was changed. the same holds true when going to a quick lube shop for oil changes

I didn't look at the oil that came out but i heard metal fragments are so small that you need microscope to see it.

I went to the dealer and asked them for the oil for 135i. I bought 7 quarts but ended up only using 6 quarts of 5w30 synthetic.
