Rear Drag Racing Shocks
I haven't been able to find any drag racing specific double adjustable shocks for the 135i... is anyone messing with the rear suspension to improve launches?
I know that in general you want the rear to squat hard and rebound gently to improve 60ft times. I did manage to find a set of shocks that are extremely close in length, travel and compression dimensions to OEM 135I shocks on Summit Racing: Competition Engineering Adjustable Drag Shocks Part #C2740 These are made for RWD Ford Vehicles, but the mounting points are similar so I don't see any issues using a different Hex Nut on the top and bottom for them to attach and dropping the bushings, plus they are double adjustable for rebound and compression. Any thoughts? Alternatives? At a $100 bucks for the pair I might just pull the trigger and test them out. |

AFAIK not many people doing drag specific suspension setup on these cars. Typically 2 way adjustable dampers for these cars are really damn expensive anyway like in the 4 digit range so you don't see much of that in general unless the owner does competitive driving or just has too much money. Your idea sounds interesting. I have no idea if that shock is compatible or not, but there's no harm trying. Keep in mind the valving may not perfectly match your springs even if it bolts on and the travel is correct.
Please update if you go ahead with the plan! |

Best mods imo for good launches are LSD, lock down bracket(prevent wheel hop), M3 rear subframe bushings along with rear lower and upper guide rods. I'm on Tc Kline S/A and I enjoy them DA is over kill if the cars not seeing heavy track duty. If you do try those ford ones out please update the thread.

Install went pretty smooth. Mixed and matched the OEM bushings with the supplied ones and everything lined up easily.
Note: The threads on top of the new shocks are the same as OEM and the BMW nut can be reused, however the threads on the bottom are different and you must use the supplied nut along with a small washer. Initial driving impressions with these set to 30/70 are that the rear breaks loose more progressively on the street, no wheel hop. Real test will be when I get out to the track this Friday. Interesting that they fit. What ford are they made for?

I cut a 1.6 vs a 1.8 on street tires with these, so they definitely work. Only issue is they are super squeaky so dont really work for a daily unless the noise doesn't bother you
