Finally changed my brake pads over the weekend

My brake light has been on for over 15K miles now. I checked the pads when it went off but the thinnest was about 5mm so I just ignored it for awhile. It came on around 65K miles and I am at about 81,500 now. I changed them and still have several mm left - but I don't think it would have made sense to run them longer.

It's pretty easy on a 128i, e88 with the biggest issue just getting it in the air and getting the wheels off. I found it easier to jack up the rear suspension a little go get at the bottom slider pin, something not mentioned on the FCP youtube (which is good). I don't think he mentioned the head of the pin is a 7mm hexagonal indentation in the rear brake video but he mentions it in the front brake one.

I had previously replaced and tied up the rear sensor - it is easy to put under the fender liner. I replaced the front wear sensor, I saw no easy way to tie it up and it be for sure out of the area where the suspension might catch it. Even thought it will probably trigger the light in 60K miles or so, long before the pads really need to be replaced, it isn't a terrible idea to have a sensor there just in case the pads wear more quickly than I anticipate.

With the senors replaced I had no issue resetting the brake service reminder. It would not reset without the replacement. The front one looked OK but was noticably worn on the tip that projects towards the pad wear surface. The senors are pretty thick which probably explains why they trigger the light on the dash so early.
