Parking Distance Control Retrofit DIY ?
Having the parking distance control function would be nice to have on my car. I was wondering if it's an easy diy? I know on older bmw's there was already pre-installed cabling and was hoping that might be the case here?
Thanks! |

In addition to the sensors and bumper covers, I think you need to add KCAN wiring harness from front to back; dunno about wiring to front bumper. You'll also need to code it in. I briefly considered adding to mine, as we've gotten used to PDC (have on our other cars since 2006). But it'd be expensive to add as a stock-BMW thing.
On the plus side, if you do the research and add up the costs, it'll likely make the Bimmertech cameras seem like a bargain at $950 front+rear. https://www.bimmer-tech.net/shop/bmw...sist-retrofits note that Bimmertech also offers a PDC retrofit kit with used OE sensors. I didn't ask if their kit assumes use of non-PDC bumper covers.

I'm pretty sure the PDC sensors used in the Bimmer Tech kit are new. As such, you'll need to paint the sensors to match your bumper. With that said, you also have to drill out the holes in your bumper to fit them in. Looking at the kit, it's pretty expensive particularly if you do both front and rear PDC.

Here's a video of someone that installed the PDC retrofit kit on a 128i.
He doesn't actually go through an install but goes over in general what is involved. |

I was hoping for a pnp install and that'd it be inexpensive.
But given that the visibility out of the car is pretty good I'm okay with not having the convenience of sensors. Just a little bummed that parking sensors are fairly common these days. |

The Bimmer Tech kits are plug and play. I don't know how you expect the parking sensors to mount to the bumper without modification. Knowing Bimmer Tech kits, the actual electronics will mate into factory harnesses without modification...plug and play.
Even if the harnesses were there to plug in the sensors, you'd still have to drill the bumpers. |
