BMW 1-series M Coupé: production data

Hello everyone,

The idea of this thread is to collect and share data regarding the production of the 1M Coupé.

I would like to start with a table which summarizes total production figures, as we currently know them.

Enjoy!

A few notes here -
Series relates to a given sequence of ID numbers. Number indicated is the first for the series, which then ran sequentially. Quantity for the series indicates number of cars produced.
Pre-prod 0 refers to the date when production started at the plant, for pre-production vehicles. These were produced for internal purposes, be it validation and evaluation, type approval or photography, for example.
Job 1 referes to the date when the first car produced for general sale was completed
EOP stands for End of Production date for that particular market specification.

And here is the production chart, by months, by market.

It starts in February 2011, the first month of series production.

Garage List
I thought the final production number was said to be 6331 as the last few 1M's roll out of Leipzig?

Do we know the pre-prod numbers vs. production total or is it impossible to detect from the data available?

This is by no means a complete list, but it should contain most of these cars. Some of which, by the way, have never been shipped to their specified markets.
The list contains vehicles that have been defined by the plant as pre-production units. Press vehicles are, in most cases, production cars that undergo special preps. These are not included here:

Germany - 14
US - 11
Canada - 3
UK - 3
Australia - 3
Korea - 1

That is what I wanna know too! I want to see something official on the numbers with a BMW AG link. So far I have not seen that.

I guess I will see with my own eyes in another few weeks when I go to Leipzig to tour the factory(again).

Official figure: 6,331 1M's produced (initially 2,700 scheduled).
(source: http://www.bimmertoday.de/2012/07/29...-in-java-grun/), quoted here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=724478).

Comparison: E046 M3 CSL: 1,383 produced (including 29 pre-production examples).

That probably means BMW do not count the vehicles that were built for development purposes only and were never sold. Makes sense.

As for the Java Green 1M, it should be VU27452. This vehicle may have started its life painted in VO.

Hi

When I went in all the pre-production cars, a while back, I found one for China (VP74916) that I think you have not counted in.
I think also there has been two different Korean pre-production cars.

You're absolutely right for both - 74916 is Chinese, 74910+74913 are Korean.

Total breakdown should therefore read:

Germany - 12
Korea - 2
China - 1
UK - 3
Australia - 3
US - 11
Canada - 3

For US 1M models RealOEM.com shows 12/2011 was the last production month.
Don't forget that BMW also got to manufacture enough 1M spare parts (kept in a warehouse for many years), so there are still a lot of virtual 1M's out there that will never be assembled. Specific problem of limited production cars: if you got an accident in many years from now, you got to find the original parts ...if still available. Otherwise, you need second hand parts. So you'd better don't get involved in an accident.

I think there is a German law that says a manufacturer has to keep parts available for up to ten years of each model. I think after seven years it is just basic stuff that has to be maintained. I also think this is why at first you can only get most parts from the manufacture and not from OEM parts stores.

On every trip to Leipzig this question comes up while on the tour. Every tour guide has told me this... the most popular color is VO, followed by AW and then BSM. BSM is quite rare they all told me.

Maybe they release the numbers someday I'm curious about that, I thought it would be the other way around BSM followed by AW and VO which is a bit more radical and not for everyones taste. Thanks for the info

I can also confirm that was what I saw on two visits to Liepzig last year - while the 1M was being made. On both tours I mostly saw VO and AW. Only one or two BSM's.

On one visit I counted thirteen 1M's being made that day... six were VO, five were AW, and two were BSM's. I also thought it was weird that I saw something like seventeen ActiveE's being made that very same day! I am also curious what the final data count will be for ActiveE's vs 1M's. For sure BMW built more 1M's. But not on that day I was there visiting.

The VU18100 series was new to me and to BMW M Registry http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=53 So I toke out that series (all the equipment lists) and included them in BMW M Registry color chart which makes the total;

300 Alpinweiss III; 2386st (38st in the VU18000 series)
475 Black Sapphire; 1636st (27st in the VU18000 series)
B44 Valencia Orange; 2316st (35st in the VU18000 series)
Individual; 3st (VU27351, VU27352, VU27354) this is thanks to Alex Palevsky at bmwmreigstry.com, the Java Green is either 351 or 352 since 354 also have Sonderpolsterung. What the two other colors are are not known.

I have also taken out every US equipment lists of the 983st made. The colors are shown on BMW M Registry but the rest of the info is new;

L838 Canada; 222st (if you want I can break down how many of each color, that will also show how many of each USA-car)
S609 Navigation system; 694st
S507 PDC; 666st
S302 Alarm system; 666st
S494 Heated seats; 778st
S442 Cup holders; 824st

Regards Stephan

A source claims BMW Belux has quoted the figure of 214 1M cars for Belgium and Luxembourg, with the following breakdown:
  • AW: 78 (78/214 = 36.45%)
  • BSM: 63 (63/214 = 29.44%)
  • VO: 73 (73/214 = 34.11%)
1M cars with Belgian license plates: so far 111 identified by yours truly (status as of September 30, 2012) (except for possible overlap due to sale, resale and/or license plate replacement) (details: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=259):
  • AW: 42 (42/111 = 37.84%)
  • BSM: 36 (36/111 = 32.43%)
  • VO: 33 (33/111 = 29.73%)

Is there anyway of knowing how many 1Ms were delivered to S. Korea?
BMW Korea is kind of secretive with this info.

That was my mistake as I provided the production data for the 1 M Coupe to Alex.

Here is a breakdown by country

UR91
China - 447
Germany - 1134
Gulf Version - 82
Korea - 228

Here are some guesstimates. It is mostly based in what language the instruction manual came. In some cases that doesn't mean the actual country since for example Portuguese is spoken in Portugal, Brazil and a bunch of other countries. Sometime the country can be guessed by the region code of the DVD. Portugal would get region code 2, Brazil region code 4. This is most likely very inaccurate.

Brazil - 63 (S889A - Operating instructions, Portuguese + S700A- Area-Code 4 for DVD)
Czech Republic - 20 (S8ALA - Owner‘s Manual/Service manual, Czech)
Denmark - 1 (S888A - Operating instructions, Danish)
Greece - 2 (S8AEA - Owner‘s handbook/Service booklet, greek)
Hungary - 4 (S8AUA - Owner‘s handbk/Service manual, Hungarian)
Italy - 144 (S855A - Language version Italian)
Netherlands - 188 (S886A - Operating instructions, Dutch)
Poland - 11 (S8ATA - Owner‘s handbook/service manual, Polish)
Romania - 3 (S8ARA - Owner‘s Manual/Service booklet, Romanian)
Russia - 77* (S8LRA - Country control, Russia)
Slovakia - 3 (S8AKA - Owner‘s Manual/Service manual, Slovakian)
Spain - 91 (S856A - Language version Spanish OR S883A - Operating instructions, Spanish AND S698A - Area-Code 2 for DVD)
Sweden - 139 (S885A - Operating instructions, Swedish)
Switzerland - 316 (S869A - Language version Switzerland)

French version Europe - 482 (S881A Operating instructions, French OR S854A Language version French AND S698A - Area-Code 2 for DVD)
French version Africa? - 5 (S881A Operating instructions, French OR S854A Language version French AND S701A - Area-Code 5 for DVD)

Mexico + Spanish speaking South America - 379 (S883A + Operating instructions, Spanish + S700A- Area-Code 4 for DVD)

* there were 81 cars built with an option S891A - Operating instructions, Russian. Most likely those 4 cars went to some former Soviet country, like Ukraine.

UR92
Australia - 350
England/Ireland - 452

UR93
US - 761
Canada - 222

Hope this helps. By the way

P.S. Does anyone know what the option "P949A - Sport Package LA" mean on a 1 M Coupe?
