Replacing Midpipe Cats with Resonators

Hey guys,

Looking to replace my Midpipe Cats with equivalent sized resonators.

Anyone have any links to resonators they have used in replacement of the N54 secondary cats?

I want to be sure the resonators I order will fit in replacement.

Thanks,
Durim

Just find out what size the tubing is I think it's around 2.5 inches and order them I think they're 50 each, that's what a lot of e46 m3 dudes put in their midpipes to get rid of rasp and make their exhaust deeper.

If they really are 2.25" then Aero doesn't care that size.

Only 2" 2.5" and 3"

You could get a 2" and maybe expand the end with one of those machines that exhaust shops have? (Can't remember the name)

While were on the subject of exhausts and e46 m3's:
Anyone know how to make a 135i sound similar to a m3? I miss the raspy scream of my old car so much. I'm thinking straight pipe to get the rasp

Your turbos are acting as mufflers. So if you had an exhaust on your old M3 you'll probably never get it to work out like that.

If you want rasp, full catless straight pipe will do it.

NP!

No idea honestly. I'd get under there and measure the lengths of the straights in the midpipe section.

12" seems to be perfect.

Let's wait to hear how it sounds.

Currently have Berk Race Axle-back, BMS Cat-Less down pipes and the stock Mids.

Also, this OEM resonator, should I delete it and replace with straight pipe or keep it?

HMM. You know, I might put a Y-pipe resonator delete in there while you're having the secondaries cut out and the vibrants welded in. Since you're mufflerless though, hard to say. It would be nice to see how much the vibrant res reduces rasp in the exhaust note compared to the stock y-pipe resonator. I haven't messed with my mids at all aside from trying the N55 midpipe so let us know how it goes.

I'll weld in the resonators first and see how I like it.

I'm sure even with the replacement of the cats with resonators the car will be louder.

A before/after vid would be awesome if you have the time to do so.

The Maddad midpipe is exactly that, with the ideal resonators IMO.

Check into it. That midpipe is my only exhaust mod, and it'll probably stay that way. First car I haven't done a full exhaust on in my life, but I absolutely love the sound and OEM black tips.

Those are $700 and have the same diameter of the stock midpipes (2.25") so basically all you're paying for are the resonators....

The logic is not there.

I just wanted a quality high end part with the PERFECT sound. I got that. I think it was worth it vs hacking up the stock mids in case I want to sell the car etc.

You can certainly add resonators to the stock cats. What you are trying will work, but then its cutting welding and buying high end quality resonators (hopefully) to get the sound you want. And if you don't like the sound what would you do buy another set of resonators and pay someone to cut and weld those in?

Labor factored into the price on my setup. The maddad pipe bolted in easy as could be.
