Cat VS Car
I have a problem. My wife is an animal lover and because she loves animals so much we have 3 cats in our house (Definitely not my choice). The big problem is that our cats go into the garage and spend most of their time on top of my car. It's okay now because I haven't yet ordered my 1er and I don't really care if they get paw prints and scratches on my Prelude. Paw prints aren't that bad because I can easily wash them off but I have a few scratches on my Prelude from their claws which would be totally unacceptable on a $45k car.
Possible options: 1) Get rid of the cats! -- This isn't going to work. My wife is extremely attached to them and I have to admit that I have grown attached to them too. 2) Keep the cats out of the garage. -- The cats litter box is in the garage and there is no way that I want to smell cat poop in my house. There is no other good place for the litter box. 3) Get a car cover. -- This is the only real option I have come up with but it will be a real pain in the butt to have to take it on and off everytime I take out my car. The 1er would be a daily driver. If anyone can recommend a good car cover that is fairly easy to put on and off the car, that would be great. If anyone has any other possible solutions to my problem, I would be happy to hear those as well. |

if there not outdoor cats (i'm guessing from the litter box that they are not) why not get them de-clawed, they will never scratch your new 1er goodness or anything else in the house, or you could just make them outdoor cats.

I got my carcover from Bigskycarcover.com. I got the evolution fabric. Its 3 layers will help protect your car from the cats. However, if they choose to mark the carcover with their urine, that will be a problem.
Next step will be the "Cat Defender". It will electrify the exterior of the car when the alarm is armed. If a cat jumps on the car it will be instantly vaporized.. Your wife will be upset, so you might not want to get this.

Sounds like you are in a tough spot. When I read the original post, I was going to recommend the de-claw. It seems like the best overall option. Cats get to stay where they are comfortable, the car doesn't get scratched, and you don't have to deal with the car cover (which will over time be torn up by the cats claws), and your wife gets to keep indoor cats.

Option 1. C'mon cat versus 1er? Not even a second thought.

I too, am a cat-person, and, understand cats are superior to humans, just ask the cat. As to the litter-box, my cat is an indoor pal, I cut a hole in the wall, lined it, made a crawl-through to an outdoor, sealed though ventilated, potty-place. They adapt immediately, cats can be quite cooperative when you accommodate them.

i have 2 tabbies myself. option 2 is my choice. i am sure you can relocate the litter box and find a solution to the bad smell. i use feline pine and i cant really smell a thing. i have a glade thing plugged in right behind the box and i never smell cat shit! good luck with the issue. glad you wont declaw, its totally wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a closet that holds your waterheater and/or furnace. Cut a hole in the door and place the catbox in there. Good Luck!

You could look at a cat/dog repellent... I was. I still need to try it out though

I used a car cover successfully for several years and never noticed any scratches from it. (And better question: what's more likely to bother you? Very minor scratches that can easily be buffed out from the car cover? Or the cats using your car as a scratching post?) Putting it on/off because second nature after a while, just be sure you have a good place to stow it while driving (i.e., where the cats can't scratch/chew it up).
I think that sounds like the best choice of the options you have available. |

Give the cat away, leave the backdoor open when you go off to work. Lie and Deny any wrong doing...................problem solved.

You could always tell your wife that since she has cut off any reasonable solution to the problem that every night she now has to put cute little booties on their feet before bed.

Not sure why this is in photos and videos (as there are none...). Moving to general discussion.

As a car lover and fellow cat owner I would suggest simply moving the litter boxes into the house. As long as you scoop frequently and use good litter there will be no odor in the house.
BTW do not get the cats declawed. IT IS cruel. |
