Am I weird? In city driving (around 60kmph), pretty much in 4th riding the torque. Cruising on the freeway at 100-110, mostly in 6th unless I'm going to overtake, in which case 5th with M pressed.

If it's daily driving I pretty much follow the suggested gears on the display.

You lucky guys that get to cruise at 150+

What gear do you guys park it at about 130km/h? I usually don't go above 4th,, but maybe I should try 5th or even 6th if I don't have the M button on.
No wonder why you get crappy fuel millage. If it`s flat I can use the 6th gear as low as 80km/h. At 130km/h in 4th you must be around 3900rpm why you need that much rev with a car that have a flat torque curve from 1500rpm all the way to 4500rpm? Even at 119km/h in 6th it will climb most highway hill without any need to downshift.

i get 10.4L/100km and i have about 9000km on the car. I use only Shell 91 octane when in Toronto and BP when in USA. Some Canadian SA told me that Shell gas is better for BMW engines as it is more cleaner.

I really don't know how you guys do so many miles with one tank! I usually do 14l/100kms and even when doing 120kmh in highway the car still does 12/13liters, it never does 7/8/9 like some of you do, I don't understand it but I wish I could, the tank is really small.

It really comes down to your driving habit and what gear you usually use. Obviously you would get better mileage if you stay at the highest appropriate gear. And I agree, gas tank is small...

Try higher gears if fuel economy is a concern. Use higher rpm only when you want to drive spiritedly.

This sounds like me. My trips are relatively short...35km or so.

Agree w above. Staying in highest gear is key to fuel economy.

I average 16-17 mpg combined. But, do much better on long hwy trips (avg speed 80-100 mph) at 24-25 mpg. I leave it in 6th gear when driving steady on the hwy but drop down to 4 to pass.
