Clear Bra

Besides me, has anyone else put a clear bra on their car? I absolutely love it. Of course, live in Arizona, with rocks from the mountains, it's a necessity. My previous VW needed a paint job when the car had 65k miles because it wasn't protected.

My only regret is that I didn't put the clear bra on the second I got my car a few years ago. I got 3-4 small chips on my hood before I had the clear coat put on. Filled the chips with dr color chip the best I could but you still see slight indents on the clear bra where the chips are

XPEL on the front end of the M2, the 1er I bought used and bumper would have needed to be re painted and cured before doing PPF.

But yes, it's a life saver, I tracked the car many times and the front was always clean.

Will be doing the same with the M2 Competition when it gets delivered it's going straight to get Paint Protection Film

I also regret not having the film done on my car as soon as I took delivery of it. I looked into doing it recently as I had the front end of my car repaired due to hitting a deer. The cost I got from the vinyl place was so crazy that I passed on it. The amount they wanted to charge was equivalent to having the front end repainted again. And since the front end is no longer off the production line pristine, I had no incentive to pay the cost of the protective film.

Having it on the front of the rear fenders is also important. The front tires really kick up a lot of junk.

I am in Perth Australia.

Did my clear bra recently with MADINC. Xpel film. very happy with results. once again regretted not getting it done earlier. picked up a lot of gutter rash.

Do it before u install any aero (lip etc)

Also full template for the 1M is not available. only the front bar, bonnet, rear bumper and fenders.

Yup, just pulled it off and in the process of reinstalling new. Had XPEL, might go 3M this time. Redoing the whole car in stages, first up bumper, rockers, and CF lip...my buddy owns Autopaint Guard if you need the templates.

Edit: going full SunTek, it's hydrophobic and has a 10yr warranty plus it seems slightly more clear.

Within first 1000 miles I had XPEL ultimate installed on entire front end, to include bumper, hood, fenders, A pillars, 6" area above windshield, then XPEL standard on side skirts, behind rear tires, trunk/luggage area... And that film is tough...I had a bike scrape against my front right fender and I though for sure my paint was damaged. Several months later I took film off and zero damage on fender...so I had to reinstall on that fender....

Now 7 years later everyone thinks the car is brand new as the front looks so good...best mod/protection I've ever done and will immediately do it to any car I buy new and value as a keeper....

I went with the Suntek Ultra and have been quite happy with it. I covered the full front, bumper and oddly, the entire roof - mainly because I feel like birds aim for that part of the car.

I have Xpel ultimate and the main thing I’d do differently is cover the entire hood rather than cheaping out and doing the front half only.

I to live in Arizona and a clear bra is a must in this state, luckily I put it on as soon as I got my 1M and the car is still pristine. I clear bra the entire front of the car, hood, fenders, rocker panels and in front of the rear wheels (a must). I have not seen another 1M around, where are you at in AZ?

I'm in the McCormick Ranch area. You don't drive a white one do you? There is one that drives up Hayden sometimes right by my house...

I cover front half, now almost 7yrs old, just took off last week, started to look bad, order xpel in bulk and wil do full hood myself, then do the bumper and full fender later. Definitely worth it for 7 year old car with 50k miles, no chip at all on hood, haven't take the bumper off yet. Do paint correction first if you guys want to redo your hood, or haven't yet.

Which is better ClearBra, XPEL, 3M? Is yellowing still an issue after several years?

I have 3M film on my 1M in 2011 since and just recently taken off because yellowing and age, where as the 3M I install myself in my 2014 911, already show sign of aged.

I believe that I sealed the clear bra in the 1M with Sonax, and not the Porsche, I just wax the porsche and sealed it with some sealant that I don't remember.
Also the car color plays a part in hiding the yellowing, my valencia orange really did well with clear bra. Not so on the beige color of the Porsche.

I just install the Xpel ultimate on my new GT3 myself, finally finish couple of days ago, pita job, but I saved $2000, full hood, fender bumper, n mirrors. Then I sealed with sonax ceramic coating. Lets see how this will hold.
One last thing, don't wax your car before installing clear bra, do paint correction ie polish out swirls and such then install clear bra.

I went with Suntek Ultra and have had good results. I use it on all three of my cars. In Arizona, it's a must. I cannot believe the rocks this clear bra takes without any issue.

I wish i could install it myself as that would be a huge cost saver!

My 3M on VO still going strong; only regret is not getting full hood coverage, but my vendor didn't offer at the time. I can see no color difference and can only explain in part by always garaged in no sunlight when not driving. Clearly has prevented many minor chips.

I'm surprised you need a clear bra in Chicago. As a former resident, I don't recall any chips in any of my cars. Maybe because I rarely had a chance to go above 45mph...

I got a quote today to have XPEL done on the front end of my 1M I'm picking up on Friday.

Here are the details:

1) Qtr Hood approx 7-8 inches
2) Full Front Fender
3) Part of Right/Left Qtr Panel (that traingle created by Fender and Hood)
4) Both Side view mirrors

10 Year warrant including Parts and labor.

$1450 So, is this a good price?

That price is comparable to what I paid for identical coverage 6+ years ago. I would strongly encourage you to do full hood coverage though. A few months after application (1/4 hood coverage) I picked up a rock chip a few inches past the Xpel on the unprotected hood.
