Best Exhaust to wake it up?

I have the 1M, a M2 Perf Edition with BMW Perf Exhaust and a 2017 M4. The 1M sounds the least "exciting". Since I've decided to keep it, what's the best sounding exhaust? Not super loud please. I like the push button quad exhaust on M2.

Akropovic?

Where did you get it? Entire system or just catback?

I had a CP-e catless midpipe from my old 135i so I bought the axle back Akrapovic with the wireless sound kit. I originally had catless downpipes but swapped them for a set of high flow catted CP-e downpipes to eliminate the bad exhaust smell. Bought the exhaust from FPCeuro

2nd the Akra. Titanium sounds great. If you keep your OEM DPs I'd do a new mid section as well. I'm running Akra catless DPs and found that the stock mid pipe w the dummy resonator is the best sound grouped w/ the Akra slip on. Tried Maddad, and N55 mids w/ and w/o the performance Y-pipe. Was more free flowing but the sound was too untuned and refined.

I'm running Lightweight Ti with/catless DP and stock midpipe, sounds fantastic. I'm not the biggest fan of the raspy noise of the Akra although I do love the craftsmanship of it.

Do you have a sound video? And do you use the akra wireless kit or is completely open at all times?

Yes I do have the wireless kit and run it open, except for early mornings if I head to a local cars & coffee

It's not raspy with the stock mid pipe, however, it was w the N55 mids, it was even louder w the Maddads.

No vids but can create some soon.

Also had a Dinan exhaust prior to the Akra and liked the sound it produced, frequency was higher.

I think this is a great alternative to the Akra

Lightweight Titanauspuffanlagen

Since a few weeks I am also running the Lightweight Titanium muffler in combination with OEM N55 midpipe, after three years of OEM sound-ownership. MUCH BETTER! IMHO, I think that it looks better than Akrapovic. Also, you do not have to click the button to open the valves all the time (as it has no valves). It's a huge improvement, but not too loud - just fine.

Also a great alternative to Akra...better sound as well. I would've gone this route If I hadn't found a good deal for a new Lightweight Ti.

I installed this (with the HMS mids and stock dp) this spring. As someone who does not enjoy the raspy sounds that titanium brings, this sounds absolutely lovely! I really enjoy mine!

N55 mids + akra slip on is the best bet if you want something that is still somehow civilized. I spoke to the guy that prepared the 1M MOTO GP pace car before changing my exhaust, and that was the setup that he recommended to me for an exciting loud but road acceptable sound, and I'm satisfied, also the price is not shocking.

HMS mids are completely unrestricted I believe, the sound/raspy suppression come from leaving your OEM DPs in place. It's more work to remove them, however, the DPs are a higher CEL count than the cats located in the stock mids and flow less I'm sure. -In short If you don't want the rasp leave some form of cat in place; OP

I'm not sure this is accurate. I've got Akra downpipes and an Akra midpipe, but the stock axleback. It's got a sound similar to an E46 M3, so I guess you can say it's got raspiness. I love it, and have received nothing but complements from those who have heard it.

It's pretty accurate haha The stock exhaust uses more baffles so the sound bounces around and cancels, you are still restricted -As you know. Not sure how a N54 motor would sound similar to an S54 motor but would love to hear it...maybe it's all that titanium you're using. Btw the Akra sounds more silenced than the stock exhaust when the valve is closed IMO. It's only a matter of time b4 you come to the dark side and go full Akra evo

For the OP, if you dig the push button feature on the M2 then go that route on the 1M, mayeh start w/ a slip on and if you want more sound swap mids or DPs. (4 cats are overkill)

Anyway to have Akra remain in red-mode (valves open)?
