NICE! Thats what I was hoping to hear!
Is anyone getting anything installed by their dealer? Clear bras etc? I find it a little odd that you can't get an alarm installed at the factory and it has to be done by the dealer. (Its not even an option unless you ask for it) |

I'm not really considering buying the clear bra, but I am thinking about the tire insurance. I heard its $400. (Can someone confirm this?) If it is, I may purchase it. If you lose one tire it'll pay itself off.
Does anyone know if you can negotiate on tire insurance? Slightly off topic, but is anyone financing here? I initially got a quote of 5.6 from my dealer through one of the local banks in the area. That was in May. He got back to me recently with 5.99. I heard banks usually set new rates each month, so this might be the case. The Fed hasn't raised the prime rate though. He mentioned that if I'm unhappy with the rate he can use a .25 voucher to bring the rate down, which to me means that I just need to use this as the deal maker to get the lower rate. Any thoughts on this by the way? This is my first car buying experience and I'm hoping the finance guy is not playing any games. Does anyone have a list of freebies you're gonna ask for? I hear floor mats and a BMW roundel gas cap are pretty much given if you ask. I heard the roundel gas caps get stolen, so maybe I won't ask for it. (Is this an urban myth btw?) My dealer already said he's gonna give me free floor mats. Thanks.

Well, I haven't been in to square up financing but, 5.99 seems to be the mid point for financing a new car right now.

I got a rate of 5.8% for 60 months by applying through Costco Auto Finance (the loan is through Capital One). I'm still debating financing vs. leasing... |

Thats a pretty good rate HKlein,
I personally dont understand leasing....why would you pay alot of money for something that isn't yours? Maybe its preference...but I'de rather not have a car payment for a few years. |

It all depends on how long you/I plan on keeping the car. If I'm going to keep the car more than 3-4 years, then it pays to buy/finance the car. But if I only keep it for the 3 year lease term, I think it pays to lease. For example, with a $44,000 price (for a well-optioned 330xi) the lease payment is a little over $600 with nothing down. The monthly LOAN payment (assuming 60 months at 5.8%) would be $846.56. So, with leasing you're in the car for $246 less per month, but you are correct -- you don't OWN anything. Philosophically, there's something to be said about investing in a depreciating asset. Why put all that money into something that immediately drops 20% in value and conitnually drops over time, when you could take the $246 monthly savings (from leasing) and invest it in something that actually appreciates....like a mutual fund. I know this thread is becoming way off topic , but it's an interesting discussion. I'm not sure where I will end up. Any thoughts? |

Update: I got a call back from the finance guy I'm working with. He's got a great rate for 60 months that almost identical to the original rate he gave me. He really came through for me, I have to give him kudos. I was feeling cynical the other day and I'm really glad he came back with a great rate. :rocks:
Thanks for sharing everyone. Only 1 more week until our cars arrive!

I asked my friend who works for the coast guard to give me a heads up if they see the ship!
This has got to be one of the hardest parts of delivery. My dealer told me I should have my car at the dealership ~ the 24th. So, I'm still feeling a bit of anxiety. |

Two stops in NY?
HAs anyone received an update on the Patriot? The status for voyage EB-622 shows two stops in NY -- one on 6/10 and one on 6/11 (http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTrac...argoSearch.do). Are there two ports that the ship hits in the NY area?
My status through the toll free number and through OC still shows "In Transit". |

My dealer just called me to tell me my car (which was on the Patriot) has been recieved by the VPC and is in process. So everyone that is on the Patriot should see their status change in the phone system torrow but our cars are in the VPC at this point.

That's great! So, I assume we get to pick up our cars by the weekend (assuming you're lokcated, as I am within a couple of hours of the BPC.)?

Well we are in a crap shoot now as to how long the cars will take at the VPC. I am only about 3 hours from the VPC so assuming the car is done by mid-week and shipped it should be this weekend. My dealer said he has seen them take 1 day and has also seen them take 5 days at VPC so now it is just a waiting game but I would say there is a reasonable chance those of us fairly near the VPC will be able to get our cars this weekend.

Hopefully that will be the case and they are all caught up from the memorial day backlog of cars. I talked to my dealer in MA this past weekend and he said I should expect the car around the 24th.
