At the price of 1M, I probably go for a Porsche 993 C2 (1993-1998)
I prefer to turbo but not the 200k price tag. The 993 is by far the best car I have driven. It is the true widowmaker. |

The 1M could be the car of your dreams. Going... going... haha, just kidding.

You know I can't. My left ankle, remember? I will live vicariously through you.

Sorry, I completely forgot. I'll talk my brother into getting one. Big car guy. He is more of an E60 M5 guy. This way I can drive it around in the Inland Empire when I'm visiting. Might be a pipe dream. Sure your ankle can't be fixed? I know a good Orthopedist in that area. |

This is an interesting thread!
There is a 2013 BMW 128i Coupe and a 2012 (MK6) VW GTI in my garage. Both cars are daily driven, all year long, all over New England. I'm probably not going to say anything that hasn't already been said, but these are my subjective impressions. Your mileage will vary: GTI (Base Model, no options)
128i Coupe (Base Model, no options)
So, the more I drive both cars the more I like them. Performance isn't too dissimilar for street driving. The big differentiation of course is the drive wheels and engine characteristics. For me this isn't a big deal; I just adapt my driving style accordingly and have fun with both cars. At the limit, these cars on the track might be a different story. I would be interested to see what both these cars would do for lap times given equal (or same) drivers with stock equipment in a back to back on-track performance test. I might have to sign up for a track day at LRP and try this for myself with both cars, just for the fun of it. I suspect it isn't a contest and the BMW will win, but then again, the GTI just keeps surprising me. TL;DR Both cars are fun and rewarding to drive in their own way. Both cars have benefits and drawbacks. Both cars are in my garage. |

Just got back into a 135 from a GTI, the VW is nice and affordable but not even close. Different car for a different clientele.

2 things:
1)I just got out of a lease, and I won't be getting into another. It seems if you drive more than 12k a year and want a nice car, its just not economically sensible (I was in a Maxima.....great car except for the torque steer). 2)Due to circumstances under my control, I picked the 135 over many other cars, including the GTI. Interior of VWs totally puts me off, it actually cost more for the VW (I usually buy 2 or 3 year old cars), and of course the power isn't nearly as satisfying. anyway, that's my 2 cents...... |
