In Jamaica, an M3 costs in the region of US$200,000 (mostly import duty of around 150% I think) and a regular 135i costs around US$90,000 (mostly duty again).

Drive a 2010 SGM 135i with the BMW PPK & Performance exhaust. Puts all those American pony cars to shame.

Almost 22.. second BMW
Parents spoiled me with a 2.5 Z3 for first car.
Needless to say, had to get a BMW for my own.
Now proudly making my payments on time
Oh..The cost of good taste

2nd BMW, but the first one doesn't really count. It was a '80 320i I paid $1k for in college. Nothing worked except the radio I installed and the power side mirror I fixed. No speedo, no odometer, no A/C, no nothing. The best thing I could say about it is that it kinda lasted two years.

The first BMW I drove was a 1981 Euro-spec 320i, and it was special. It was special in 1992 when I first drove it, and continued to be super-special until it was sold. It certainly drove better than any of the newer japanese cars I'd driven then. Pity yours wasn't well kept. It, along with the 1974 2002tii that the mother of 2 of my classmates in the 7th grade (in '85) raced into the school parking lot and peeled out of every morning when she dropped them off, endeared me to BMW and kept me hanging on patiently for my own .

This thread really makes me feel old! I though BMWs were mainly driven by "old farts."
My wife (age 53) is the main driver, I'm 59.
Hey, I never had enough $$$ until my 50s to buy a car like the 135i.
Better late than never.
After only 5K miles I've had it >100mph about 10 times, and up to 120mph once.
This bimmer totally rocks.
When the X1 comes out in CA, I'm saying good-bye to my 2006 Honda Pilot.

my old man had a honda pilot for about 2 months, replaced the stock stereo within the first week of owning it. And just about hated every minute he had it.

He's pretty picky. But he did go from a Cayenne S to the honda pilot, so i'm not surprised he didn't enjoy it.

I bought it around 1994-95 to get better gas mileage than my '64 Chevelle. The BMW had some paint left... the hood had lots of surface rust. I had to get the driver seat mounts rewelded to pass inspection the first year. It was fun to drive, but it was interesting without a working speedo. It actually ran fast... If you were going about 40, it was already pegged at 80. I used to guess my speed based on the tac and other traffic. I made a trip once thinking I was doing about 70. When I got home an hour earlier than I expected, I ran the time/miles figure and came up with an average of 92mph.

It finally got retired when I got a full time job, and the repairs to pass inspection were getting too high.

Honda Pilot and X1

My 2006 Honda Pilot has 33K miles and has been 100% reliable. Nice car. The stereo/CD is much better than our 2009 135i. However, the Pilot isn't very interesting to drive. OK, the X1 is being released in Canada soon, but not in the US for another 9+ months. I'll be looking for some Canadian car mag road tests. I'm keeping my Pilot well polished and maintained to gain maximum trade-in value.

I think you'll be satisfied with the X1, seeing as they are aiming it straight at the already existing GLK and Q5, it will have all the things needed to be a better car then the other 2 as they have now been on the market for a while

I wouldn't worry about it much at all.

if it were like the original X3 and trailblazing a new segment, i would be apprehensive, however, they have learned from their mistakes and from the other companies, and it's aimed directly at the competition.

(X3 is going up in size and no longer going to compete with the Q5 and GLK, the X1 is the new one to compete)
