My paint chip repair results on Jet Black bumper

I thought I'd try out some touch up paint on my very chipped up bumper. Come spring/summer I hope to get it completely repainted but in the meantime this was all I wanted to do. It may not be perfect, but the improvement you get for under $30 shipped is well worth it. My bumper was in particularly bad shape. Enjoy.

Here is what I used:

This is before, just awful:

This is after the primer, you can see just how many chips I had to fill:

This is after the Jet Black paint, what an improvement!

Nice job.

After the respray, consider getting a clear bra.

Are you first owner? If not maybe previous owner or dealer did a respray b/c that chipping is pretty bad for factory paint. BMW paint has gotten much better over the years, E36’s suffered the most from paint chipping which is what this resembles.

Luckily you have non-metallic paint so chip repairs are pretty straightforward. Spot repairs for metallic paints never come out right.

And if you do the clearbra, make sure to wait at least 6 weeks before applying as it can pull off any respray job if it hasn't been allowed to fully cure.

Nope one owner before me. Car was repaired from front end damage before I got it so bumper was most definitely replaced and the repaint job was clearly not done correctly.

Good to know about the clear bra

BTW I see you're in Philly -- you should come out to the track next year. NJMP is only an hour away, maybe even less =)

Yea I went this year in August and did Lightning; it was a blast. Can't wait to get out there again in spring

What is the company that makes that touchup kit? Looks like a great kit and you got great results!

The kit is from Automotive Touchup. Very impressed with it. I think the primer helped a lot

Looks great. Wish I had known about this before I got a drcolorchip kit. Works ok but I like the process you were able to use in that kit better. primer step and clearcoat step, win!

What was the price?

It was $31 shipped. I haven't even used the clearcoat so I may do that this weekend for a little more protection

I used to use Langka and Dr Colorchip but for deep chips you really need a primer pen first else the touch up paint will never fully adhere to the metal.
