Indeed. Closest I’m gonna get for a while, until average temps are up another 10deg or so.

Took the car out of storage, drove it about a mile or two to put some gas in it. It's getting picked up tomorrow to get the water pump and thermostat swapped for units from FCPEURO. Later this week I'll be doing the PE mod to my stock muffler.

That looks great. Are you going to spray it with a high temp clear or do you think it will resist corrosion?

Cool! Can you talk a bit about the wheel and tire sizes you're going with?

Thanks!!! I doubt it will resist corrosion as I'm pretty sure they're made from 304 S/S which can also get "tea" stained just from getting/staying wet.

Enkei NT03rr in 17x8 ET45 and 17x9 et50. I expect to run a 5mm spacer up front for clearance of the BMWPerf calipers that will be going on soon.

Tires are Firestone Indy500 225/45 and 255/40

Here's a couple quick pics. Not finished yet.

I don't like the height adjustment. We don't have a tone of room to go down like that, the balljoints are in the way. I like the thread into a sleeve design better.
But really once you have a ride height you never really touch it.

And not much preload adjustment and the spring diameter is going to limit tire width.

With the M4 knuckle there's more room for the damper sleeve to move. Absolutely no problems there. I adjusted it all the way up and down this afternoon. Plenty of space.

My YCW dampers had the sleeve design, and had very little height adjustment, the sleeve is actually taller believe it or not. Certainly easier to adjust though, the way Ohlins did it is a total PITA.

These are actually linear beehive springs, which sit higher than 2.5" ID race springs, this increasing tire room. Since there's separate ride height adjustment there's very little reason to touch spring preload. Y'know?

Anyway...

Finished the passenger side and started work on the driver side today.

And... My caliper finish is looking BAD. 110k of rock chips. Considering sanding them down a bit and spraying with VHT high temp Burnt Copper. Thoughts from the gallery?

I'll have to read up on this M4 knuckle, later.

I just noticed this too, what gives with your fender liners?
Where did you get the center piece from? the one which covers the the 3 holes in the strut tower.

I've seen this color or something close to it recently. Looked ok with the silver rims but it would look way better with black or gunmetal wheels

Drove 1,200 miles over the last two days. From sitting at DFW for a week, to being back in Virginia. My school decided to keep us at home longer than originally intended, and I don't trust my car to start after what was supposed to be 4 weeks away, and airport parking is expensive. But, of course, they decide to cancel all on-campus activities and classes for the rest of the semester an hour after I got home, so I'll be driving another 2,400 miles to go out and grab the rest of my things and come back. I even stopped by campus for some school-related essentials before heading home. I was right there...

Anyways...Had an intermittent short circuit at the rear right wheel speed sensor, as well as a supply voltage issue for the DSC module. Got codes 5DC2, 5DA6, 5D97, and 5DF7. Ordered a new speed sensor and a voltage regulator for the alternator, so we'll see what happens. Occasionally DSC would have a freak-out, throw the Christmas tree at me, and then all would be fine less than a second later. It just about only happened when it was damp, which points me to water being in the connector for the speed sensor. Also, the side aero/sound panel under the driver's side of the car popped a mount and a chunk of it was dragging on the ground, so I promptly ripped it off the car. Those were my adventures on the drive home.

Today, after getting home, I FINALLY installed by AKG DTM selector rod. Royal pain in the ass, but so far it seems worthwhile. The tolerances are soooo tight, and it feels really really solid right now, perhaps a little stiff due to an excess of friction, but it's absolutely lovely, and I got rid of the crazy side-side play it had before. While under the car, though, I noticed some small cracks beginning to form in my flex disc, and it sounded like the center support bearing (really just the bushing it's mounted in) was not doing too hot. Lot's to do with all this time I have on my hands...

Had another go with a gap trim from a different supplier, metallic this time. You need a perfectly sized gap or else it doesn't work. The interior trim build quality of my car is terrible so thumbs down. I'll just have to stick with my plain black.

I just pulled calipers down from drying after painting them over the weekend. f30 fronts and 135i rears. I hit them with one of the G2 brush on kits that was color matched to BMW steel gray metallic. Not my best work but I'm happy with the color.

Over the next couple weeks I'll finish gathering parts to do the brakes, rear subframe bushings, and rear sway bar all in one go.

Would love thoughts on what's involved to put the selector rod in. Been considering adding this part along with delrin bushings throughout.

Completely worthwhile if you do it all while you're in there. It's a pain, but you can do it like I did with the driveshaft still in place. Just drop the rear two undertrays and you're there...

I refinish brembo 996 calipers for e36/e46 and I mainly use vht paints. If you proceed, pm me, I have some tips that are vital to a good finish.

I'll crawl under there while the cars on jack stands for my suspension/brake job. All the pans are off now.
