1 M Coupe 340 or 335 hp?

The pictures of the NAIAS show a sign which says 340hp. Did they increase the power, or is this marketing? I thought the "official" U.S. power rating was 335hp.

Does it really matter? Companies are allowed to fudge the numbers a bit anyways. Just like theN55 is advertised as 300hp/300tq, when if you dig into the actual numbers they rate it at about 306hp/295tq, they just say 300/300 to give it nice round numbers (and to keep it the same as the N54).

In any case, the 5 hp has ZERO impact on my decision about this car.

Most of the official material including the brochure and website say 340bhp but I have seen conflicting info from BMW themselves so who knows.

I posted the same question elsewhere and never got s definitive answer.

340HP = 335 SAE So just a matter of convention, US uses latter, so I recon BMW should have used that on the stand, but at the end of the day they are technically right.

Same reason why E9xM3 is rated 420HP / 414SAE. You'll see both used interchangeably.

"Society of Automotive Engineers" I believe. They set the standards used to measure/gauge/compare things like HP.

Not even sure Dr Kay knows!

In the video Dr Kay says 340. Also the board in the background in the video says 340. However the board is later changed to 335 bit they sent out the video with the original figure.

Perhaps as highlighted they are referring to different standards.

Mark.
