Bad vacuum line.

Is this a DIY project? Or do I just need to find a good mechanic?
Also, The dealership is sayng the repair is $890. Is that way to high, or just kinda high?

Remove and replace the EKPW and vacuum lines. (EKPW and
vacuum lines found faulty.)

I know, this is probably covered elsewhere. I'm probably just lazy......

After playing captain google AND surfing bimmerpost, I've come up with lots of nothing. No DIY, nothing . I don't think I need the EKPW hose, nothing is leaking. But power is 1/2 with this vacuum problem. Any help is appreciated if anyone has any ideas.

I couldn't find what EKPW means, but are you looking for vacuum line replacement DIYs? There's a bunch.

Did the dealership write EKPW on your estimate? Could be a typo?

They did, and that scares me a little, simply because I'm driving 30 miles on the freeway everyday so if I lose coolant, that is one hell of a tow. But verbally, I was advised its the vacuum line. I suppose I need to call and get the straight truth. I think they are trying to lump in hose replacement to make some extra bucks. I found EKPW on the e90 part of our site. I think replacing the vacuum line should be easy, but I have not seen a 135 DIY on bimmerpost, dating back to 2014 posts on the DIY stickies.

The vacuum lines are not at all related to coolant, why are you afraid of that?

What is EKPW?

The vacuum lines should be exactly the same as the E90, since the engines are the exact same.

It seems it's a PITA job though, so the estimate may be for labour since it takes a while and they charge 100-150 an hour.

If you can't be bothered, pay up if you think the labour is fair.

Sometimes I choose to pay the dealer, especially for the 2 year unlimited miles warranty.

ON "EKPW" on google it goes to a coolant hose replacement on a 335. That looks like where the $800 is going. You have to take off the fan. The vacuum hose seems straightforward, but I would like to see a DIY vid or hear from someone who had done it.

Driving my car around with reduced power is sucking!

I'm thinking it is a typo. It is probably meant to say EPW valve. It's the solenoid valve on top of the exhaust manifold heatshield.

That will definitely cause low boost.
The vacuum line between solenoid and wastegate actuator is simple to replace. Don't cut the hose until you have routed it.

It was just a hose, solenoid was fine. $200 repair.

The hose from the solenoid to the wastegate rarely fails though, despite the challenging environment it lives it it somehow does ok.

Apparently the solenoid was OK. Power is normal. Big smile my face when I hit the throttle now!
