Isn't that what those round hole thingys along the center console? I think they called them cupholders. The smaller one (partially blocked by the storage) is for smaller/thinner phones. The larger one for larger phones.

It sounds like part of your issue is that you don't want to run a cord. another option to consider is a different phone or an integrated battery pack. if you are an iPhone person I think their 6+ has pretty good life. if you are Android then there are a few phones with exceptional life. I have run 6 + hours of navigation on my droid maxx with battery to spare.

Droid maxx has the most beast mode battery though haha! But yeah I NEVER charge my phone in the car. There always seems to be enough juice to get me to wherever I need to go plus I think it is a hassle having a wire charging my phone in the car. Some of you may work out of your car and need the phone powered up all the time so I guess it is okay for you but if you aren't one of those guys all you need is the kinivo to stream music if your car cannot do so already.

I don't mind running a cord from the USB port to the center console area just for trips, but it is a pain for shorter trips if you just want music. I would prefer that the car had streaming Bluetooth. Actually, the saleman told me it did. I know, shocker that a salesperson would lie. I paired the phone up to check that it did have bluetooth, but didn't think to actually try playing some music at the time. I could have sworn that streaming bluetooth was part of the premium package, but I guess I was wrong.

On long trips the main issue is navigation, which means the screen needs to stay on and I have never seen a phone that will go more than a couple hours with the screen on and no power cord. Anyway, it's going to be a while before I have an upgrade, and I have been pretty happy with my iPhone 5 after two worthless androids in a row.

I agree and then I got this phone which does run that long. Amazing compared to the other phones out there that I have had personal experience with. I'm not trying to promote android vs iOS or one phone vs. another. I'm simply stating that the technology is continuing to improve rapidly and what was once a given (<2 hours nav with screen on) is not necessarily the case any more.

Well, I just picked this up.

I'm going to buy some magnets and 3M tape it to my windshield for easy removal. I suppose you could double stick it on the dash on the few long trips you take to power the screen of your cell phone. It will look ugly but like you say it is just for the long trips.

As for the music just get the Kinivo I linked earlier. That thing is amazing bro. It auto pairs to your phone when you start the car. Handles both calls and music, actually ALL of your phone's audio. Problem solved

Proclip plugged in to my "Smokers Package" outlet.
I also got their "Move Clip" to make it easy to slip off the bulk of the mount when I'm not using it. They have tons of holder options: No power, plug-in, hard wire, all the way up to tablets.

For under $20, this has been working fantastically for me.

Does the smoker's package add an outlet in the front of the console?

This mount is interesting, but I really don't want to block the vent like that, especially in summer.

Yes, instead of a cubby, there's a covered outlet and ash tray. I dont need satnav that often so without the actual mount the clip doesn't block all that much HVAc output. Two summers in the California central valley talking... Even with extended usage I never get too hot or cold.

Makes it hard to see the navigation, doesn't it?

My .02:

I grew up in AZ and know that you NEVER want to block your air vent nor break the smallest pieces of plastic in your vehicle.

I use the Mountek CD holder. My HTC One M7 isn't the lightest thing, but it isn't the heaviest either. If it's not secure, it tends to rattle. It is a bit unnerving in that you have to tighten it beyond what you think the CD plastic will hold, but I haven't broken anything yet.

If I would ever take a longer than 2 hour drive where I would need to run a cable, I could care less about aesthetics. Road-trip rules apply and you do whatever you need to be comfortable.

Not at all. Since my phone is just a phone, I use a Garmin GPS mounted between the A-Pillar and the instrument hood on the driver's side. Much larger screen, better navigation, doesn't block or displace anything else. That way if I forget my phone or its battery dies, I still have my navigator on board.

You probably should have mentioned that in your first post. It would have come across a lot better.

How is this? I'm looking at ordering this. The magnet isn't so strong that the mount will slip out of the vent and stick to the phone?

I have a pro lip on my but I moved the clip to tg far right side of the central vent. More airflow for me

Been a proclip user for the past 10 yrs and would not have a car without one.
