Its been done over 20 times by me personally (literally) and done by bmw at least 5 times. It is NOT a random air pocket. An air pocket would cause it to boil over, which is not the case, as, like i said, there is combustion pressure entering the system.... :/ its only overheated once, after spraying 2 liters of coolant out (overheating from the massive loss of coolant from over pressurization) :/

Me too, I've been following this from the beginning like it's a mystery novel.

I say we should just chalk it up to the previous or current owner using some random tune incorrectly and overstressing the car.

Must have been some aggressive tune if that is the case. Only has 23000kms on it.

There we have it, bmw opened an engineering case. The result. They recommend head removal/resurfacing/pressure testing

$13000 lol

Holy shit... so what are you planning on doing? It would probably be cheaper to have an Indy shop do a whole motor swap with a salvaged motor... I would definitely contact BMW NA (or w/e the Canadian equivalent is) and make them aware of this.

Rip bro. Your case is worse than blown head gasket as you originally thought.

BMW Canada and Germany are both aware of it with an engineering case open... I'm waiting for the dealer i bought the car from to weigh in on this, sometime early next week most likely ...

Here is a rebuilt short block for a whole lot less:
http://parts.bmwnorthwest.com/p/BMW_...wd=&origin=pla

Or here in case a short engine does not come with the head....

http://www.ebay.com/sch/Complete-Eng...e&vToken2=3.0L

still yes the head may be warped, cracked internally, somethings not right...

Thanks man, the final nail in the coffin... massive stumble followed by the reduced power warning with a consistent massive misfire (ecu shut a cylinder down??)

Maybe you can just pull the head and get a valve job? I've seen that before and it was bent/burnt valves...if the pistons are OK...that is.

Its not a valve issue? The misfire is certainly from coolant leaking into the cylinder after it sits for a couple days (most likely pressurized to the cap pressure rating (because it had probably sprayed on the way home from the dealer) at this point im thinking its a dying plug from running with coolant on it, its now just an occasional misfire now

Did you press the issue with the dealer about trying to get this covered at least partially? If they won't have it try another dealer and/or call Bmw n/a...

Thats what "goodwill" is for. This kind of thing should not happen to a car with that low mileage.

I would not have the dealer fix it, they charge too much. So was a radical tune ran on it before? If so, there is no telling what may cause the leak into the cylinder, but it does appear to be something wrong with the head. Go see post #21, he said he had a loose head bolt of all things and everything went downhill from there.

I don't think you can get BMW goodwill unless you're going to the dealer. It sounds like there's a good chance they will cover a lot of this cost if they are opening up an engineering ticket regarding this issue. If they decide not to help out I'd definitely take it to an Indy shop though.

Well the 3rd party dealer i bought it from is giving me the big ol F$&@ you. So im on my own.... im gonna have to buy a beater ffs... probly an e36 although i wouldn't mind an e21 for ultimate luxury beater swank.... then im gonna tear this pos N55 apart, see if the blocks good and go from there... im gonna save a bunch of money in the mean time because whatever it is it wont be cheap... if the block is damaged i might buy a used n55 and rebuild it/ forge it (sans the crank because thats unrealistic)
