Just as it wasn't correct to say that the 1M is a bunch of parts and cosmetic upgrades and a tune over a 135 ... C'MON MAN! Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 11-14-2019 at 01:05 PM.. |

I think it's the closest thing BMW has put out since the 1M.
However, I would not say it is the successor to the 1M. They M2 is just so different than the 1M that I don't even consider the two to be in the same spirit. Not taking anything away from the M2....it's a great coupe and I'm interested in potentially picking up an M2cs to add to my 1M if the pricing (Which has not been released in the USA) is attractive and I can get an allocation. |

If i’d set aside that performance wise both vehicles have more performance than i would ever fully appreciate.
I feel lucky, that i was buying my dream care in the E82 era. The base model made my head turn the few times i ever saw it befor 2010. But i was not in love with it. Then came the 1M blue balls reveal campaign. When they released the Paris teaser i was hooked. The arches, the rims, and later the overall look. I was ’head over heels’ so to speak. So for me, although certain features make the M2cs a better daily driver (EDC), or a cooler car (seats) or better performing (but probably not on steering), i have not longed for it once. The base F82 design for me is an unpassioned uninspired design, and worse the M version has 2 dealbreaker esthetic flaws: synthetic arches and something hanging out its ass. History of entry M cars appears to be pretty consistant: E30 + E36 - E46 + E92 ~ E82 + F82 - ... Last edited by eeghie; 11-17-2019 at 06:44 AM.. |

I think the real question is not successor but does it hold a candle to the 1M.
The difference is 135 (which is a great coupe) to 1M there is a special magic in the mix BMW came up with. The M2CS is an upgraded m240 via the already upgraded M2 & M2c. There are incremental neat steps there making not as large a leap. And the M2 & M2C were made in large numbers so there is that.

Drove the M2C yesterday. Everyone is different, but I much prefer the OG M2.
If someone does not know what we are talking about when we discuss EPS steering vs Hydraulic steering and you like to buy new cars all the time. **Do not drive an older car with hydraulic steering** Ignorance is bliss, IMO, enjoy your new cars. |

Debating whether one car is more "M" than another is a slippery slope. Some argue the last real M cars were the homologated cars. Others argue it depends which factory the car was made in or whether the car was hand-built. Some even say the 1M isn't a true M car, because it doesn't have an M engine.
Ultimately, I don't care if BMW adds one part or two hundred, and I don't care what label they put on the car. It's the results that matter, so we'll see if these new carbon parts and a few other changes surprise us in being a goldilocks kind of car. As far as being the true 1M successor, that's just the regular M2, but that certainly doesn't mean a lot of 1M owners would trade. |

oh and it had fender flares..... oh and.......ok i think you get the point! the 1M really was a total reincarnation of the 2002 Turbo. I do agree with you that the N55 M2 is the closest in spirit to the 1M. Personally it's the only M2 i feel carries that spirit.

One can argue about how much the "M" designation ever meant, in the past. For now, it's now just a branding marque used by the marketing department.

That’s kind of my point. It’s the end result that matters, regardless of what the car is labeled. Who knows, maybe adding some carbon fibre and a few other things is just enough special sauce to make this new CS noticeably better.
