Got most of my cf trim installed thanks to Dan. A few more shots of the ashtray removal. Sorry for the crap phone cam quality
There's two torx screws you need to remove from the underside to remove the center console. Pretty much lift up the center and shift it to the right and left to reach the screws. There's six tabs that hold the ashtray to the center console. I believe I pushed down on the back side of the ashtray to dislodge it from the console. The ashtray trim surrounds the cover overlapping the edge by about a quarter inch. Used an interior trim removal to pry up on the edges around it and it came out easily. |

Hey Andy, great write up. Do the door trims and dash tirm just pop off with clips or or do you have to remove the doors to get to some screws?

step 1 and 2(shown in pics on page 1) are enough to remove the ashtray+trim, or do I have to remove the whole center console to get there?

noticed while im pulling apart this thing. that there seems to be an air bag ecu or box of some sort in there. i would recomend disconnecting the bat before this project as i will. dont want that sensor send a false signal and blow all the bags.

The e-brake handle needs to be pulled even further up. Pull as hard as you can.
Pull until you think you are about to hurt the car or even yourself. Then get some leverage and pull harder. (BTW - make sure the shift lever - manual or automatic - is in the center position.) I had the same experience as you are having, for several minutes. I worked and worked at it. I ended up turning around 180 degrees, facing backward and pushing the lever up. There is at least one more click that you haven't yet found. It is there, I promise. |

Cool thanks. Ripping apart the interior seems like a bit much just to get to my ashtray, thanks BMW. Does anyone have any trim removal tools that they don't need n e more?

I just spent a week tearing my console apart to install gauges so I can say that I have some experience in the area. My arms are full of cuts to prove it! |
