Oh boy, lap times here we go. GTR is the second coming of Jesus. All hail the computers and turbos propelling us forward and driving for us.

Please, explain to me how lap times=fun, and how that stacks up to the all time driving fun greats like the Elan, E30 M3, or Miata.

*Edit* Just noticed that the 135i is slower around the 'ring than a Ford Focus, are you sure this is the strength you want to use?

Here's a better link. I would never want to track a n54/55

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=412156

FYI the 2nd car in my way slowing me down was a 335i, that was before the s65. What does this prove about the n52? Nothing but it proves nothing about the n54 neither so let it be. Different drivers enjoy different cars. I have a n55 and n52 and I wouldn't say one is better than the other.

At least its in contention. 128 wasn't even invited to any of the parties.
The Focus would have smoked the 128 but a much larger margin, funny how that's amusing to you.
The 128 is no light weight by any stretch of the imagination. It's power:weight isn't impressive by anyone's standard.

Going down the list of different track times the 135 comes up on top of quite a few well respected autos. You can't just cherry pick.

I pointed out that there are other I6's that I think are on top of the best, it doesn't include the N52. The M54b32 revs to almost 8,000. You might call that ' too high' collectors dont.
That's my opinion on the n52, and I imagine BMW's as well because they only made it for a short run, didn't make a M out of it and chose to drop it completely.

Of course Lap times translate to fun on the street. If it didn't, you wouldn't have modded your car and name yourself( and car) after a racing figure. Just silly for you to imply otherwise.

Just curious as to your reason why there are no 128 times on the fastest laps site?

From the top:

My personal car weighs 3000lbs on the nose. Couple that with the power I'm currently making and the power to weight ratio is impressive. Better than a stock E30 M3, E36 M3, E46 M3, 135i, 335i, Z4M, and so on. It's also lighter than all of those except the E30.

I don't care about lap times in case that wasn't abundantly clear already. Your car being slower than a Focus was just amusing to me. Also, last I checked there is no one using a 135i in a race series. 128i is a repeat contender in Grand Am though.

M54B32 isn't an engine.

My car isn't modded for lap times, it is modded for driving enjoyment on the street. If it was about lap times I would have gutted the interior, switched to mono-ball/solid bushings all around, installed a cage, nabbed some Motons, put on straight pipes, installed race seats, and made all the other compromises that yield lap times. The forum handle was for pairing to my liscense plate, which I got in 2005 before many people stateside knew what Top Gear was. It was a way to connect to fellow enthusiasts.

You could also listen to your fellow 135i owner in here, who is spot on when it comes to the "joys" of tracking turbo BMWs.

Probably because fastest laps is a site that compares European tracks, and the 128i is only sold in North America.

Here it is on the professional circuit though:

Dude, first if all, you don't even know how much hp/TQ you're making because you never did a before/ after dynos. You said you were going to but never did, just a bunch of excuses.
Secondly, I thought we were talking about stock cars, not modded ones. If you want to compare modified turbo cars to NA ones power: weight ratios you lose there also.
There are different classes of mods, talking about gutting the interior is towards the extreme. You modded your car for the street and you did so partially to make a good lump of extra horsepower, gives you more fun in the street. Theyre intertwined. To say otherwise is disingenuous.
I do indeed talk to tracking 135 owners, often. The vast majority love it. On the other hand, 128 track drivers are pretty uncommon. Fastest laps and the boys at Top Gear agree. Since you're a top gear fan you must have seen the clarkson paper proclaiming the 135i " the best car BMW makes"!

The N52 is a good engine, I just wouldn't put it at the summit of the NA I6 mountain.

Man.... You've already cluttered up this thread that has nothing to do with the 135. So what they put the tii on the 135. It was meant for a 128.

One of the things I've found is that, in real life, at autocrosses and track days, car guys appreciate the 128i. I always get compliments on it. I've had numerous instructors who were 135i owners and they ALWAYS comment on how good my car feels, even saying it is better balanced than their own cars. My point is not to start some 128i>135i conversation, but only that these sorts of belittling, trolling comments disproportionately occur on the internet, and usually by wannabe drivers who think they're superior because they bought a more powerful motor, but have put little to no work into their actual driving.

I can't believe how many posts have been wasted by the bigot. Can we get a mod in here to clean up all the shit this guy started?

You gotta love somebody who has to be right on the internet.

edit: by the way, we know stig is making at least 225hp at the rear wheels, because that's what i'm making. He also has a higher quality tune and superior headers as well as less weight than my car.

At the end of the day, the important thing is we now recognize the potential of the 128i and the N52 in this section.

Back to the thread, any more takers? Hitting 10 would be nice. Would likely work out to ~$20 shipped per pair at that point.

I'm in. I have no desire for "stickers" of any kind on my car but after all the "Sturm und Drang" I'll buy in just to show support.

You also forgot:

If you have endless pride in your HP/TQ figures, but then spend most of your time bitching about traction and trying to fit wider tires in the rear despite bodywork limitations, you MIGHT be a 135 driver.
Good one! Salud!

Let me put my blinders on and enter a world where the entire persona of a car is based on its track time...

I prefer twisty mountain roads, encountering like-minded drivers on the road and enjoying the trip. Listening to the engine and trans, rowing thru the gears, and that is exactly what I will be doing while your car is up on jacks/waiting for parts/getting a new HPFP/being 'coded'.

There's room in the world for both camps - all I'm saying is, you stay in yours and I'll stay in mine. What you are doing is bullying.

Count me in too! I doubt I'll put it on my car (I took everything else off the first day I had it - especially the dealer logo) but I'll take one in the color shown.

I read these threads because they're entertaining, but they make me ashamed to have a 135. I feel like a 128 owner in a 135 owner's body. I will say I do enjoy tracking my car, though.

Anyhoozle, cool sticker. I think it'll look great and be meaningful to enthusiasts on the 128.
