Agree With Your Assessment

I own an 88 3.2 Cabriolet and a '13 128 M Sport. The 3.2 cars are solid and I love the mechanical feel of everything from pure Getrag clutch to having pure brakes and pure steering (no power assist on either). Just wonderful to drive cars like this with zero computer interference - No ABS, No Traction Control. These cars are art and I always get people talking wherever I drive it.

Having a hard time making my 128i with M Sport package get the go-kart handling it needs. Did a Dinan Stage 1 suspension upgrade but still too soft. I do not track my cars. I am purely talking about the daily commute and I still think it's too soft.

If you weren't on the other side of the country I would offer you a spin in mine. Between the M3 suspension bushings and TCK coilovers I have effectively dialed out the factory softness without making the car harsh to drive.

It's a great combo of cars and I certainly can echo that the 911 is loved wherever it goes. A vehicle truly made before the bean counters started running everything.

It's a joy to work on as well. Just did a valve adjustment, oil change, trans/diff fluid change, new distributor cap, new distributor rotor, air filter, spark plugs, and so on. Such a breeze to work on.

Last weekend I did a valve adjustment, changed the oil to proper 20w50, changed the trans fluid, changed the air filter, replaced the distributor cap, replaced the distributor rotor, replaced the spark plugs, replaced the valve cover gaskets/hardware, redyed the black trim, polished the Fuchs with vaseline as per the owners manual, and installed a 2" spacer behind the steering wheel.

Also finally got to lose this piece of shame the previous owner used.

I work for Verizon where I develop credit models for their finance department. Basically, in a macro sense, I help them weed out who will pay for service and who won't, before they are provisioned.

Yup. I has that really good old German car smell. Amusingly, I specifically asked the seller about that before I came up to see it.

That was my reaction when I saw it.

The POS didn't even have wrench dents for easy removal(wanted me to buy one of those rubber strap wrenches). I substituted double sided tape which worked remarkable well with my spider socket.

The old shop I used to frequent and hang out had a 84 911 SC guys were working on. The smell is as big part of the character as everything else, something that can't be quantified over the internet.

The smell of awesomeness. My family had an old Mercedes Benz 300D when I was very young, the interior smell is something I will never forget.

Could not agree more.

When my fiance bought her E46 ZHP, the previous owner had a really well cared for E30 325i that a fellow CCA member had lent him while he was car-less. I had her hop in and she was completely floored by the wonderful aroma that is a properly cared for old German car, and still frequently brings it up.

One of my childhood friend's parents had a W123 300TD wagon in dark blue on brown for years. I absolutely loved that car and was pretty bummed when they sold it.

And PenDOT rejected FUCH EPS as a custom plate.



Anyways, over the last few months I have:


Finished up my door panel project:

-New RS America panels
-New window switch frames
-"Custom"(EMS strapping for $0.50) RS door pulls as the provided ones were junk
-Door stay reinforcements(required a bit of trimming to fit)
-Rebuild/re-greased window regulators/tracks
-New external hardware
-New plastic pivot clips inside


Rebuilt and regreased window regulator. This is no flimsy E46 unit: :rofl2:





My RS strap(left) vs the ones that came with the kit(right). My version is softer, has a finer weave, and is a darker less pink red:




New panel complete:





Replaced tail light lenses/gaskets:

I gave the URO Gen 2 lenses a chance and actually was very impressed with the product I got. Time will tell how they hold up, but as it currently stands they felt nice, fit well, hugely increased the light output over my faded stock units, and looked excellent.

My 30 y/o original gaskets looked horrid though, and my housing bolts were fused to the square back nuts. Pulling my tail lights down the road will likely require me drilling out the stock hardware.

This was once a gasket, it has become a toothed fan belt:





Installed a front ram air scoop:

This one is fairly self explanatory. It's a front air scoop that rams air directly into the front oil cooler for a more efficient cooling system. Obviously it only works at speed, but from what I saw before I parked it for the winter, it was doing quite a good job. Also looks pretty subtle/badass.





New rear speaker covers:

Odd bit of maintenance as I have deleted the stereo/speakers otherwise, but this is an area I'm not going to get to in depth for a bit. Made by a PelicanParts member, they are a reinforced direct fit for the flimsy stock units that crack after years of stretching panel and sun.





Replaced the whale tail:

The car came with a '75 Turbo tail, which is a ridiculously rare version as they only made it for part of one year. As such, it is worth quite a bit of money(which I used to fund its replacement and the next project). I will probably regret selling it eventually, but as it currently stands, it's not the correct wing for the time period.

Replacement mounted(I had a lot of people tell me to do a red hood/roof/deck lid paint scheme when I had it temporarily like this):




All painted and aligned with my new tail light lenses(I'm terrible at panel alignment):





Installed Recaros:

Since my passenger's seat was pretty shot, I decided to overhaul the seats in an effort to gain passenger comfort, additional functionality, weight savings, and a bump in headroom. After months of research, I decided to order a custom set of Recaros through their S08 program, as the cost wasn't much more($150+ per seat) than getting something that wasn't quite what I wanted.

I opted for:

Speed S Model
Black vinyl everywhere(zero maintenance)
Small black Recaro logo instead of the huge white one that is stock

It took ~3 months, but then this arrived:




Sadly, this is when I discovered that the 935 seatbelt bracket that wanted to use did not clear the mounting points on the seat:




After a lot of research, I settled on getting the Planted seat brackets for my car, as they seemed to be the sturdiest units available. I'm perfectly happy to gain a few ounces here to have a safer setup.

Step 1 was to pull the stock seats out, which was pretty easy as this is effectively a car from the '60s in many regards. Only had a power seat cable on each side and a seat belt sensor on the driver's side to unplug:




For those who haven't installed aftermarket seats in a car, everything is universal fit, which basically means it doesn't fit anything without adjustments. The drill press, cut off saw, and grinder were my best friends during this.

When I ordered a custom plate for my wife's car it was rejected the first time. I submitted again with a stupid explanation about it meaning something else. It got approved the second time.

It was funny, probably the dirtiest Ontario plate they ever saw, quite often had people taking pictures in Quebec.

For those in Quebec, the plate was "MON MINOU". Basically slang for "MY PUSSY"

Just tell them you have FUCH wheels or something stupid.
