1) How much of the shroud do you have to cut to get this in?
2) Can you still revert to stock intercooler once the shroud has been cut?

Thanks for the video

you don't need to cut anymore than the regular 7 inch vrsf FMIC. Im not sure how to quantify it but it was a decent amount of shroud being cut. it was extremely easy with a dremel though.

I believe you can always revert back to stock for an intercooler, even with a cut shroud. Its not visible with the front bumper on!

Thank you for sharing, been researching intercoolers for my car recently and this thread definitely provides some compelling info. Cheers!

The VRSF 7" HD and 7.5" race core come without any anti-corrosion coating, which is good for heat transfer, but not so good for longevity.

Did you coat yours with some kind of anti-corrosive yet thermally conductive product?

Aside from anodizing it, what other products can be used that will protect it without reducing it's efficiency of heat transfer?

Unless you live somewhere that is exposed to salt the amount of corrosion is pretty negligble and not anymore then a stock FMIC.

Anodizing would be ideal.

Thank you for the info. How much should it cost to get a 7" HD anodized? I can imagine it's not cheap.

If anyone knows of a less expensive way to make it black without sacrificing performance, please share.

Thank you

You'd need to source an anodizer and a lot of them only work in batches. You'll have to call around as it's not often done for the end user but still possible with a small place.

What's the best thing to have it painted with? I'm trying to find some kind of thermally conductive epoxy so the IC doesn't get insulated by the paint.

Hey guys,

Anyone notice a power increase with the vrsf 7 hd coming from stock. If so, where in the power band? Also, any noticeable lag or slower initial acceleration when crushing the throttle until boost picks up, pressure drop and such. Im seriously considering this intercooler. Im fbo aggressively tuned running Mishimito 5 inch. This intercooler does well with the added power gained back throughout the power band and cooling until muti gear pull through 3rd, 4th etc 30° temp increase. 5°-10° iat increase 3rd gear pull. Thanks.

I don't log much, so just visual gauge minding ...
About the most rise I've seen so far is maybe 8* on a looong pull.
No power gain to be had and yes there is lag. The reliable temps are worth it.

If you really push a 5" you'll see even more rise than 30*. On a 25psi tune I was seeing almost 60* deltas.

Has the vrsf 7 in hd been discontinued? Just bought stage 2 turbos maybe running them at 500 to 550hp. I don't want to max turbos out. Is the 7.5 in competition replacing the hd? I really don't want such a big and heavy intercooler but it looks like my choices are slim for the price of a good intercooler. Anyone have personal experience with AMS? Maybe that's a better option for my power level. No track. Just street use.

Discontinued but replaced by 7.5" Comp FMIC. Most customers have enjoyed the upgrade and didn't find it too much.

Thanks

So about 25 lbs? Any additional pressure drop or lag with these?

No extra lag or pressure drop. They use a quality fin pack design to allow good throughput and cooling.
