Empty compartment in trunk

Might already be answer but did not show up in search. What is the purpose of the open compartment next to the battery compartment? Looks like something bolts on to that compartment.

To the left of the battery? That is for the toolkit, spare bottle of oil, first aid kit, etc.

Oh ok. It still looks like something bolts on there.

The Sirius Unit bolts in there if you don't already have it.

I really want a trunk monkey.....They are awesome, I have no idea why they recalled them???? I feel those actions were proper operation, no need for a recall!!!!

+1 on the Trunk Monkey. BMW NA better add Trunk Monkey as an option for the 1er. Seems like a better security system then the clown nose alarm system underneath the rear view mirror.

Since the trunk monkey is out of business, what else goes in that compartment?

Looks to me as if a jack/lug wrench might fit in there. Not sure though. Was the car offered without runflats at some earlier time?

This was discussed last year on this forum. It is something to do with the manufacturing process. When the car is started down the production line, this is the first part that is bolted to the conveyor system. The rest of the car is added on to it.
