Window Shopping at Lime Rock

Was at the ALMS race today (amazing race, on SPEED tomorrow afternoon), and the parking lot there is second to none on the East Coast for what Alain De Cadenet would call "tasty machinery." So I poked around looking for some good wheel inspiration. As usual, I forgot my camera, but the whole point of this was seeing them in person in any case and i had to rush back over to get back to my area for the race. I found that I liked the D-Force EMPower (on a Porsche) a lot better than I thought i would. The detailing looks clumsy in pics, but it's actually not so bad. I also saw the LTW5 on a BMW 3 series, and my opinion stands that it makes the wheels look smaller. There was a nice 911, very well turned out, with BBS RS-GT wheels, which really look sensational on the right car. Not sure the 1 is that car, but on a 911, whew, look out. Another 911 had a set of truly big-ass BBS LMs, right car, right wheel, but probably not a 1er style. And, finally, there was a Subie station wagon that had a set of BBS RGRs on it, and they were as lovely as their picture. Makes my BBS fitment frustration all the worse. But the EMPower definitely went up in my estimation.

Cool! I have my LTW5s mounted on my car for an event tomorrow. I think of them as very lightweight utility wheels. I much prefer the stock wheels over those.

I also agree with you about the EMPower wheels looking not quite right in pictures. I have yet to see them on a car yet, so you're one up on me there!

I guess you had a phenomenal day, weather wise, to spend at Lime Rock Park too! It's gorgeous out here...

It was amazing. Great day. if a little humid. I've never seen it so packed there, great to see people supporting Lime Rock.

So do you think the EMPOwers would fit?

Also, let me qualify the EMPower comments by saying that it looked better than I had thought -- I would still take a set of RS-GTs or RGRs, all things being equal (which they, of course, never are). But they're light, strong, not so expensive, and would offer a nice alternative to the stock wheels for those who want something a little different.

Here's a pic I haven't seen before, but they look a little too narrow for this car...

I also saw one of the most immaculate, beautiful Porsche 356s I've ever seen (black, speedster). There was a lot to look at today, on track and off.

Tazio, that 18" 8.5 & 9.5 are about the right offset to use with our cars. Since they only make 'em in those two sizes, I bet that's what you saw on the e92.

Middle of the page -- seems like slight rubbing at the rear with the 9.5"s, even with 255 width tires. Seems fixable, though. Sounds like this could be an option.
